This is a fairly large, by Dutch standards, National Park set in an unusual area of freshwater tidal wetlands, close to the city of Dordrecht. We spent an afternoon walking some of the many paths that criss-cross their way around the park and enjoyed seeing a wide variety of wildlife, from rabbits to frogs and of course innumerable types of waterfowl and other birds such as lesser spotted woodpeckers. Common sightings included grey herons, grebes, two types of egret and a few terns hovering and diving into the water. There are plenty of paths ideal for exploring by bike and we saw a fair few people out on the water in kayaks, which would no doubt give a different perspective to the park. We did try to keep our eyes out for signs of beaver activity, but had no luck on that front, so a return trip is on the cards.

Even on a gray Dutch day the BiesBosch is a beautiful site to hike through. The different types of islands, the birdlife, it's beautiful. Park at the Biesbosch museum, than you are sure of a hot coffee after a long walk.

Do you need a quiet place to relax and enjoy the nature? Birding? Then the NP Biesbosch is the place to be. Renting a boat is great to explore the park.

Amazing and open views. The boat was OK. I was lucky the weather as good so I could go out on deck. If you have to stay in and there is rain then it is less attractive.
