Castelluccio del Cornia
Castelluccio del Cornia
About
The Castelluccio del Cornia, also known as Torraccia, is in the upper valley of the river Cornia, between the two medieval towns of La Leccia and Lustignano. The Castle is believed to have been originally built in the year 1000 and, following an incredible history of battles, has been nearly completely destroyed before the medieval ages, when a tower (known as Torraccia) has been built in the center of the ancient walls of the castle. Today you can still recognise the thick ancient walls of the castle and visit the tower, which is in desperate need of restoration. On the hill of the castle it is common to see a lot of wildlife animals (reindeers, wildbores and Hystrix / Crested porcupine) and precious fauna (porcini mushrooms and wild asparagus). A beautiful mystical place to visit, close to the water gaiser area of Valle del Diavolo and the ancient roman-etruscan thermal area of “Il bagnone” of La Leccia.
