An interesting adventure

My husband and I "rode the rails" last Saturday afternoon. We rode on the dessert train. Our server was fun and quite knowledgeable about the ride and even about the very tall wooden bridge we went across. They seat you at a table for 4 people. There are pure white tablecloths. The snack was nice and light. Beverages were unending,... More

After driving several hours to ride the steam train, we learned the steam doesn't run thru the week. Took the ride behind a diesel engine anyway which was a huge disappointment. If billing as a "scenic" ride, the right-of-way should be kept trimmed. All we saw was brush except for when we went across the river. Passed thru a YMCA... More

My husband and I rode the dinner train last weekend. I can't believe the amount of negative reviews. I mean, this is Iowa, you're not going to see any mountains ha! Seriously, there were a lot of pretty views, especially the tall bridge and the bridge over the river. Yes, there were a lot of heavily wooded areas but they... More

We are glad we had an experience to ride on the steam train. We didn't know when we made the reservation what "First Class" meant. It turned out it was being in a closed train car that had air conditioning. Unfortunately, it was just an old Metra train car. I felt like I was riding to Chicago to go to... More

This is a scenic railroad trip from Boone to Frazier and return. It is a total of 90 minutes trip starting daily. They also have dinner and lunch train along with other specials that you can see from their website. It is run by volunteers and it is a great way to enjoy part history and part excursion for kids.... More

Fun time with friends in Boone, Iowa. The dinner train departed at 5:15 pm and returned at 8:00 pm. The crew was wonderful and friendly. This all volunteer staff served dinner efficiently and provided good info and conversation along the way. While not all dinner choices were of the same quality, the pork and prime rib were good choices. Cost... More

The train ride was a great experience. The staff were so thoughtful and kind. They gave the impression that they wanted you to have a great time. Now the meal itself was not good. It was all cold except for the baked potato. Vegetables were cold, prime rib was cold and it was cut way too thin for prime rib.... More

Spent the afternoon riding the Boone and Scenic Valley Railroad. It was a fun time. We had seats in passenger car (windows were open). Open air car would have been hot on a day like today. The kids around us had a great time. This is your opportunity to ride on a train powered by a steam engine.

One of the better railroad museums I've been to in Iowa. Volunteer ran and it can show in places, but they do great work on restorations and future plans. Lots of different events/options/trains to ride. Trolley rides included. Most rides are between 1.5-2.25 hours long, nice ride, nice scenery, nice dinner train. Steam locomotive runs on saturdays during summer which... More

Several years ago my wife and daughter (5 years old at the time) and I rode the Boone and Scenic Valley Railroad during autumn. It was a fun experience, so for a family reunion activity this year, I made reservations for 17 of us. The ages ranged from 2 to 62. A good time was had by all! The views... More
