Living near Boone, we have watched the trains come and go here, but never actually took a ride until today with my 6 year old (who loves trains). Some details to note: The "basic excursion" simply takes you from the station, over two bridges and...More

The good: The train ride is leisurely and feels like a blast from the past. The train depot did a nice job of building anticipation. The opportunity to spend time in conversation with my wife on our anniversary was really nice. The scenery is pretty...More

Fun place to ride a train, great scenery. Goes over a high bridge affording great view of the Des Moines river valley. Dinner trains go further to the end at wolf.

This was a first for us on the picnic train. 10 tables to a car, 4 people per table. Bring your own food and enjoy the ride. We went on a beautiful day weather-wise (10/21) The trees were probably near their peak for color, but...More

Three generations of our family took the ride this past fall weekend with the youngest being a (late) teen. I, as the oldest, found it nostalgic, beautiful with the fall colors, and fun. Second generation person learned a lot and saw beautiful scenery and came...More

We went on the afternoon excursion ride on a rainy day (no fault to the company there) and had a nice trip but I understood there was supposed to be some presentation or at least a little info as we went. We went the entire...More

The Wolf Dinner Train ride is one of those things that every couple should experience at least once or twice in their lifetime. From the moment you are escorted aboard the climate controlled dining car and seated at your table by a large window, you...More

We had ridden the B&SVRR twice in the past. The conductor did a good job of presenting his program and telling us history and interesting stories. I was disappointed that there was so much undergrowth and so many small trees that it was hard to...More

Just to be clear, I did ride in April and spring had definitely not “sprung” yet. I’m not faulting the railway for that, this is Iowa after all, just accounting for why some of that magic might have been missed. My boyfriend and I went...More

We have grandchildren who love trains, so we took the opportunity to book tickets on the railroad. We were hoping for the steam engine, but unfortunately it was down for routine maintenance. That didn't stop the fun; the kids loved their train ride. We rode...More
