We stopped here on the way through and spent an enjoyable afternoon hiking around the two units. The Nelson Unit is situated on top of a bluff overlooking Bellevue and the Mississippi River. It also has a nature center and a very large, well tended...More

Bellevue State Park was a very small and disjointed state park. Between the 2 units, there were only 6 miles of trails. The campground was very small. It might be a nice stop for a day visit but not really worth camping there.

Beautifully situated high atop The bluff overlooking the Mississippi River. Great fall colors. There was no admission charge the day we were there. I'm not sure about peak times of the year.

Take a break and go for a walk (or hike) thru the established trails. Some run along the bluff area, some go past the Butterfly garden. Both provide great opportunities to stretch your legs and enjoy the scenery.

All we had time to do here was visit the butterfly garden and the frog pond at the end of the garden path. Our kids (ages 7 and 3) LOVED watching tadpoles swim and the frogs jump. We came back a few days later to...More
