The best times to go to the Cactus are Thursday nights and Breakfast Club weekends (before a football game begins). Thursday nights are the busiest time of the week, so it's fun with more people there. Breakfast Club also gets pretty packed since everyone (dressed up in Halloween costumes no matter what time of year) wakes up early before the Purdue football game to start drinking. The piano bar is more low key and Bruce is a funny guy. He sings and plays older songs on the piano. The dance floor is great and plays top 40 hits. The bar also has some pool tables. The cover to get in is $5.

I'm from San Diego and had come to Lafayette for my 50th high school reunion. The dinner was at the Hilton Garden, which is very close to Neon Cactus. 8 of us walked over after our after party and stayed till 1:30. Yes, it was mainly full of college age kids but Bruce was very funny, interactive, and played great music. The table next to us thought we were so fun they sent us over a round of shots! It's a fun place for any age (over 21, of course!) We had an absolute blast!

Oh, the cactus. This is the hot spot for Purdue on Thursday nights. Very cheap drinks if you get them in the big cactus cups. The dancefloor is one of the biggest I've seen and there's a couple pool tables in the back along with a smoking patio. The bartenders are very friendly, even though they serve hundreds of people on thirsty Thursday, and the dj plays some pretty great dance tunes with some old classics mixed in. This is campus though so you'll run into your fair share of fraternity jerks and people who drank way too much. The piano bar used to be the highlight of most people's night but with Bruce leaving I don't know if it will be the same. Fridays and Saturdays are usually barren there even if there are special events going on, like a guest dj or go-go dancers. Great place to go to drink and dance, just be prepared for a long wait if you come on big event weeks.
