I grew up in Indiana and was an art dealer in Chicago for 20 years--and I had never been to the Swope Art Museum before. Their collection is primarily American. It's not large or much in depth, BUT what they have will knock your socks...More

A great little hidden gem of a museum. Not very big, and if you aren't studying the art work, then you'll only need about an hour. Staff linger, but don't be put off by it. Some items including A. Warhol is priceless, so accept it...More

Any activity that is free automatically starts at 3 stars for me. That being said, I am not an art connoisseur by any means. There were a few pieces that I enjoyed seeing, but most of it was not my forte. The second level did...More

The Swope gallery was doing a bit of renovation but still worth the time to visit. The range of artists was surprisingly broad and combined notable local artists as well as some excellent world class pieces.

Was in town with time to kill; they've got some great pieces. I can imagine if you're into art this must be even better. Good for the price too (free!)

Enjoyed our two hours at this museum dedicated to American artists, many from the local area of Indiana. We eavesdropped on a docent tour of 5th graders and wished we had had a docent tour. The art is well displayed, not crowded, well lit and...More

We almost missed this little gem of a museum, make sure you don't. They have static art and revolving. We were there when they had some Andy Warhol pieces! I found a "new" artist I loved John Cox! Wow! His paintings look 3D with brilliant...More

I had a few hours to spend downtown, and chose to go to the Swope. It was well run, (free!-donation requested) and had a wide variety in their collection. I wish I would have had more time to spend here, and will definitely come back!...More

We stumbled upon this museum while walking around downtown. There were some very interesting pieces, particularly from the local artists. The best, however, was a visiting show from another local animation artist. His material was like nothing I'd ever seen.
