This iconic Terre Haute landmark opened on January 28, 1922, and occupies a special place in American theatre architecture design. The Theatre was built by Terre Haute resident T.W. Barhydt to be a lasting gift to the city of Terre Haute and it was designed by America’s preeminent designer John Eberson to be his first prototype “Atmospheric Theatre” which became his signature style that is recognized to be the gold standard of American theatre design. Throughout its rich history, the Theatre has hosted a wide range of events that have included vaudeville, cinema, performing arts and community celebrations of all types. Through restoration efforts which began in May 2013, the Indiana Theatre’s heritage has been preserved and the Indiana has been reborn as a 1,600 seat full service event center which can host a wide range of community gatherings that include live entertainment, performing arts, cinema, wedding events, and fundraisers. While visiting our proud and historic city, we encourage you to visit this downtown treasure which has served as a vault for Terre Haute memories since 1922.

Beautiful old building, built like a old opera house. Craftmanship and design like nothing I have seen , a true treasure. I have seen movies, concerts and presentations here.

The Indiana Theatre is the gem of Terre Haute. This building showcases the architecture of old- old money, that is. The community keeps up the appearance and offers a wide range of activities, shows, and events for recreation and fundraising. Rocky Horror is a MUST!

The architecture of this theater is amazing. I just wish they played more adult movies here. The best thing is the summer kids movies.

Attended an event at the Indiana Theatre and was very impressed by the great job they did restoring the facility. The only negative was the seats were not very comfortable.

I have lived in Terre Haute all my life, I have seen the theatre in disrepair at times but it always been kept up. This theatre was around during vaudeville. The new owners has put some money in the theatre and has made it really beautiful. This a historical landmark. A Must to sse

Our high school reunion was recently held at the Indiana Theatre. I had heard a lot of positive remarks about the Indiana Theatre as a venue for various events but this was the first time I had attended an event since its restoration. The setting was beautiful. The architecture is wonderful, a local treasure that has been wonderfully restored by... More
