Other reviewers say you need a 4WD, not so if you drive carefully! We set out early but it was foggy. This eventually cleared and we saw herons, kingfishers, bee eaters, lots of wading birds and in the distance a wild cat (jungle cat?). There was evidence of fishing cats but did not see one. Really lovely location with an observation post and walking areas to explore. There's a small cafe there too.

A wonderful trip about 40 minutes drive from the city Sreemangal to the spot. No fee entry. Just be prepared for a good walk. Beautiful scenery of trees and leaves everywhere. Watch tower is a great place to have a look to the whole area. Many birds in different colors mainly blue and white. My guide told me, if you come during other season, you will see thousands of birds.
Anyway we enjoyed our tour. Had to leave fast because our driver Berviz’s wife is in labor and he should take her to the hospital.

It’s a bit of a challenge to get to the Baikka Beel Wetland Sanctuary, but it’s well worth the bumpy ride to get there. Thousands of birds can be seen from the lookout tower. Bring a good camera; wish I had had mine that day. Most amazing is that some birds have traveled from Siberia to get to these warm wetlands. If you like nature, you’re sure to love the Baikka Beel Wetlands Sanctuary.

Bit of a drive out down potholed road to get to from Sreemangal and you have to walk the last 2k due to impassable embankment but well worth the effort to beautiful wetland area which was so peaceful. You can take a paddled traditional boat tour. Lots of birds but the very experienced guide recommended March/April to see most migratory birds in huge numbers.
Worth the trek out from Sreemangal.

In the monsoon this place is nothing short of a little piece of heaven. It’s so peaceful and the simple natural beauty is unmatched. You can spend hours here just walking and enjoying the natural surrounding.
Come during early morning or evening to enjoy the sunset. In winter it’s filled with migratory birds but we of course didn’t find that in monsoon. Be aware of the road - a narrow muddy path leads to the sanctuary and it can get horribly muddy and slippery during the rain. Our CNG got stuck multiple times and ultimately we had to walk. Take bicycles if possible or walk.

In the winter there are lots of birds come to Bangladesh and Baikka Beel is one of the best place to see those birds. There is a watch tower at the Beel with binocular. It is good if you have a local guide with you to describe the brief about those birds. But if you have enough knowledge about those birds no need to take guide. Early winter morning is the best time to visit and watch the birds.

So, plan a day trip to and from this place.. from Sreemangal, and, I am sure, you wont regret.. rather, thank me.. :-)

The wetlands are extensive and offer a wide variety of birds. Some walking is involved, but it is flat and easy.
