I went with average, because you’re floating down a river in a tube – for me it would be hard for a company to totally excel or totally fail. However, there are some things you need to know about because, for us the trip was pretty miserable. First of all, there are probably 400 other people in tubes on the river with you. It’s completely overcrowded and clogged, and you bump into other people the entire time. Secondly, we encountered a large thunderstorm. This obviously isn’t the tour company‘s fault, but it was still pretty uncomfortable as we huddled under trees with lightning bolts crashing around us and froze to the bone in pouring rain. Finally, and maybe most importantly to know, the river barely moves. It was flowing so slowly that we had to walk and drag our tubes roughly 3/4 of the time and it still took us 5 hours to get to the end. So in summary, we expected a relaxing warm float down the river with friends, and we got a freezing, boring walk through the middle of a river for 5 hours trying to dodge the hundreds of other tubers doing the same thing.

We had a party of 8 on Sunday and enjoyed the day relaxing on tubes floating down the river. The people checking us in were extremely friendly and the bus driver was funny and got us to drop off area in a great mood. All around a great experience at the White River Canoe Company. We plan on going a few more time this summer.

We tubed down the White River and loved it. The river was low so it took us almost four hours and we enjoyed every minute of it.

I was disappointed with the customer service. Shuttles for the tubing trip left at 11 am and 12 pm. We showed up at 10:45 am (on a Tuesday) and were told we were too late for the 11 am shuttle. So after waiting an hour for the 12 pm shuttle, we had to wait until 12:20 pm to actually load up and leave. It was irritating to have been told we were too late for the 11 am shuttle only to then wait for the 12 pm shuttle. They clearly are willing to delay departure.

Additionally, at the end of the trip, we were expected to carry our rented tubes uphill to the shed. As a paying customer, it would have been nice to have staff carry our gear.

Before I share my experience, I first want to acknowledge the two young men that were working at the entry point of the Rusty Oar trip. They were put in very uncomfortable and difficult situations that were created by the poor management and planning of the company. The only reason I would give this company a 1/5 rating is because of these two individuals and their professionalism that they had during our experience.

Now, my wife was celebrating her birthday and the plan was to do the canoe trip in the late morning so that we could make it back home for guests at 5pm. We scheduled a 2-3 hour trip (Rusty Oar drop off) starting at 11am and requested 5 canoes, 2 single kayaks, and one tandem kayak. We arrived for check-in at 10:15am and moved down to the loading area around 10:45am. From there we waited until 11:30am or so to be picked up and taken to our entry point. There was already a very large group waiting at the loading area and the location was already starting to become overcrowded. Waiting the extra 30 minutes to head to our drop off location wasn’t that big of a deal because it was obvious that they were pretty busy.

Once we arrived at the drop off area, there were still 20+ people waiting for canoes and many were becoming disgruntled. We were optimistic that the canoes would be on the way but after seeing 3 trailers arrive with a total of 10 canoes, we realized that we would be waiting for a while. In the mean time, the two young men that I previously mentioned had to deal with many frustrated adults asking about when more canoes would arrive. After waiting 2 hours for our requested number of canoes that we SCHEDULED for 11am, we got on the water at 1:45pm. We had to push back all of our plans because of the inability of this company to schedule appropriately. It was very obvious that they focus more on the money of customers and not the actual availability of their canoes. We were really disappointed with their service and we most definitely will not be using this company again.

I will be reaching out continually a refund. The fact that we scheduled our trip for 11am and didn’t even touch the river until 1:30pm is uncalled for considering we spent nearly 400 dollars for our trip.

I had genuine concern about going out on a kayak with forecast heavy with potential thunderstorms. We had a reservation( and forecast was cloudy with no rain forecasted at the time) and I Requested if I could reschedule - did not want my money back, just wanted to reschedule. Have been emailing my concerns for two days before reservations and all I would get from them is an email with their highlighted weather policy. It was supposed to be clear when our reservation was to start but forecast showed several hours of potential thunderstorms and I was afraid to be stuck on the river during lightning. Three emails and a phone call and because they decided to take a chance on the storms not coming thru I lost my reservation and money. I’m out $70 because I was afraid of being stuck in lightning and they wouldn’t reschedule us. Would not recommend making advance reservations unless you are close to your date to be certain of the weather Because they mean what they say, they make no exceptions for circumstances. Have since seen multiple reviews of issues with this company since so will definitely be going elsewhere in the future.

I wish I could describe a positive experience. My family booked a tubing trip for Father’s Day and spent $175. Unfortunately my husband was injured the morning of the trip and the customer service experience was absolutely terrible. They have no humans to talk to you, you can only message a phone number via text. I explained our situation and just asked to move the trip to another day. They were incredibly rigid and just said either we could send someone else (the trip was in 30 mins) or we’d lose the entire amount of our reservation.

White River Canoe Company has the worst customer service. I corresponded with the “owner” today over email and was in awe of their unprofessionalism and attitude towards me.

I went tube floating yesterday with a group of seven people. Amongst our group, we paid for two cooler tubes, which are a whopping $30 each. After our 15-minute shuttle to the starting point, my husband and I were one of roughly four groups/couples to not receive the cooler tubes we paid for. The truck driver that brought over the tubes and the other staff member with him told us that they accidentally brought the wrong truck of tubes and that’s why there weren’t enough. They owned up to the mistake, apologized and told us we would need to wait 15 minutes for them to go pick up more cooler tubes. But it would have certainly been more than 15 minutes, as a trip one-way to their facility is 15 minutes. So, it would have at least taken 30 minutes. We did not have the time available to wait that long, so we decided to cram our big cooler onto our friends’ cooler tube. This wouldn’t be a big deal had we not paid $30 for a cooler tube that we never received! Upon returning from our tubing trip, I spoke to a very kind staff member about our negative experience. She apologized and said she would try to get us our $30 refunded but had to get the green light from her manager. I emailed them first thing this morning to follow up on the refund and dealt with the most unprofessional person who claimed to be the “owner” but they never gave me their name after I asked for it twice. The person I corresponded with over email said there were “plenty” of cooler tubes available and would need to review our complaint with their staff and footage on site, and would get back to us in a few days. There is no way they truly investigated our complaint because within 15 minutes, I received another email from them saying they would not be issuing a refund for the cooler tube and they essentially called us liars. They said, “We were able to poke several holes in your story and it did not line up with our staffs statements.” We have been customers of White River Canoe Company for several years. I made it clear to them that I would be submitting reviews based on our negative experience and that we would not be returning customers and their response was, “Perfect! Thank you!” How immature and unprofessional.

I would steer clear of this company and purchase your own gear to enjoy the White River versus using their services.

I have been on many trips with this company and usually have a really nice time. I used to tell all my friends and family about the fun we would have there. Until last week, an out of town family member and I were trying to plan an adventure with them. Like I said I have been there a few times and it can be very busy and chaotic check in process, so after a time or two of experiencing this check in process and lady working there told us if we make reservations on line and have all of our party on one reservation that it would make the process way smoother. So we made a reservation for 6 people online $250.00 dollars worth, evening before our trip I get an email stating they are canceling the trip do to weather conditions. I could not find any issues with weather but excessive heat warnings, then I noticed not only did they cancel the party very last min, they also would not be refunding my money! They decided it needed to go on a gift card that can be used at their facility only, which is only open 4 months out of the year. I explained it was not all my money and my family was from out of town and asked for at least particle refund to at least pay her, her money back. They refused. They were very nasty when responding, with things like "option: pay your friends their money and use the river card yourself for future events" I understand wanting us to still spend our money with them in the future, 30$ for the cost of a raft being put on a forced gift card, ok fine, but 250$ is insanity to me. There are many places in Indiana to do the same types of activities, I would highly suggest using them. The "fine print" for this companies waivers are, I personally think just bad business, and their customer service is even worse.

Let’s start with parking. When you arrive there is no one telling people where to park so it is a big free for all. Be careful that you park somewhere where you can get out because I saw several cars that were blocked in.

My next issue is the bus ride. It started off well enough until we got almost to Potter’s Bridge where the bus driver decided it was time for raunchy adult jokes. So my daughter who was riding with us got to hear a very inappropriate joke (the bus driver was using the microphone to tell her joke). Even if kids were not on the bus, why do that? How unprofessional! I’m not a kid but maybe I don’t care to hear rude “jokes” from the driver of a company’s vehicle.

The trip on the river thankfully was nice even though the river level was down. We scraped over a couple rocks but nothing terrible. There were people on the river who obviously had a little too much to drink and were being pretty obnoxious but that isn’t the fault of this company and it was easy enough to move the tubes away from the drunks.

We took the 4 hour trip and ended up needing to physically walk the tubes to the dock where the trip ends so that we were not late turning our tubes in. They can charge you extra if you are not out of the water by the cutoff time. I don’t know how strictly that is enforced but just something to be aware of. Walking the tubes to the end is not the fault of the company and maybe it’s just because the water level is low but just understand that you may have to walk your tubes part of the way in order to make it to the end of the trip in time.

I gave this trip a 2/5 because of parking chaos and the very unprofessional bus driver. Next time I will either buy tubes and on our own or use a different company.

Used the online reservation to secure our tubes for the 2pm departure. Its says its $30 per peson, there were fees applied once you made payment. They give you colored wrist bands to call you onto busses to take tou to the drop off point. There you grab your tube and go float down the river. Tubes are in good shape and fully inflated and even have a cup holder. You can also rent a cooler tube to hold your cooler and stapes to tie the tubes together if you wish. Or you can take your own.
