I visited this so-called lake in September. Unfortunately I was very unimpressed. It’s actually a small reservoir with a car park in front and a concrete retaining wall. On one side is an old Soviet research institute where they study cosmic rays. There’s also a restaurant/hotel which I didn't visit.
Unless you are hiking or want to see snow in winter it’s really not worth visiting at all. The only positive is the road to the lake is scenic as you ascend the foothills of Mt Agarat., I’ve travelled a lot and this was the least impressive tourist attraction I have seen in a very long time. Avoid.

Starting from the main road from the east, you pass the Armenian Alphabet monument, then drive up the mountain through some desolate landscape. Along the way there's some shepherd's huts where they sell delicious honey.
My driver showed me a weird phenomenon, where he stopped the car on an ascending slope and put it in neutral ; amazingly the car started to move uphill, apparently through magnetic pull.
Kari Lake itself was an absolute waste of time. A small lake 3,185m above sea level, surrounded by a concrete wall, rubbish and debris. There are some dreary buildings, shacks and cranes nearby.
I really don't know why I was shown this place.

It was our first time to visit Armenia and we did enjoy all the place we've been. People are very friendly and accommodating. This Stone Lake is a must see even if it is very far. We went to this place unfortunately, one of the staff from the hotel near the Stone Lake is very disrespectful. She didn't want us to get closer to the mountains since we are not eating in the hotel. As a resident of Armenia, i think you should be polite to all especially to tourist going to Stone Lake. If the attitude of the staff is like that, tourists will be disappointed going to that place.

Nice Armenian kitchen for khash lovers. It is made from caw feet. It looks like soup and you eat it with lavash Armenian bread

Summer is the best time to visit Alpine lakes on mount Aragats. The most famous, the biggest and perhaps the most picturesque among them is Kari Lich, which has a rather bizarre shape. Asphalted, sometimes quite winding and steep road from Byurakan leads to it. For those who are going to trek to the top of the volcano, there are guesthouses and cafes. Trekking there is not too difficult, but you you do not want to miss it because of the incredible beauty of the surrounding countryside.

In the rooms : cold (july) and no hot water. The guy didn't even remember we were booked.
In the restaurant, the waitress (except one) were not nice, even with my sick friend that they ignored, to which they refused to show where the toilets are.
The prices are anyway way too high.
Although this poor service, the place is very nice and the hike memorable!

Lake is located on the slopes of Aragats Mountain. It was totally frozen at the time of the visit. Being in an hour drive from Yerevan there was plenty of snow despite +35 degrees in Yerevan. Just an amazing refreshing trip

We went in April and the road was covered in Snow patches at many places. Please drive with snow tires and preferably with chains. SUV/ATV is the best choice to drive to this place. We took rent car (Toyota Prado) from Hertz with snow tires.
The location is calm and not much crowded. The best part of our trip was view en-route. Unfortunately we were not able to go till the end due to too much snow on road. Few patches were icy and thus risky to drive. Roads are good!

Lake Kari is located on Mount Aragats at an elevation of 3250 m. It is part of the Aragats protected area which protects alpine flora around the Kari Lake and the adjacent grassland of Mt Aragats between 3250-3350 m altitude, the surface area is 0,12 sq.m; the depth is 9 m. It is possible to reach Kari Lake from Byurakan by highway. There is a meteorological station, equipped on the Eastern coast of the lake.
The lake appeared from ice formations. It is surrounded by snow most of the time and that is why water is rather cold. The river Arkashen starts from Kari Lake.
Road to the lake is beautiful and changing when you climb higher up surreal almost moon landscape. There is a part of the road with strong magnetic field. When you stop the car, and put neutral, car will start to move forward from itself, by magnetic field. Very strange powers of nature.
It's always cold there and usually snow in these hights, keep in mind, and wear warm clothes, specially when you intending to climb at least to the south peak of Mt. Aragats.

I have seen a lot a comments about it, that there is a Hotel/Guesthouse at the Kari lake. Has anyone informations about how can a book there a room or get in contact with the Guesthouse/ Hotel ? Because I'm a little bit scared that they won't have a free room in the summer. (End of June 2017 )Thanks for any help or information !
