In the rooms : cold (july) and no hot water. The guy didn't even remember we were booked.
In the restaurant, the waitress (except one) were not nice, even with my sick friend that they ignored, to which they refused to show where the toilets are.

The prices are anyway way too high.

Although this poor service, the place is very nice and the hike memorable!

Perfect place

Lake is located on the slopes of Aragats Mountain. It was totally frozen at the time of the visit. Being in an hour drive from Yerevan there was plenty of snow despite +35 degrees in Yerevan. Just an amazing refreshing trip

Frozen Lake on Crater
Nov 2018 • Couples
Does not know whether this is the location, but my driver Sergev said so, took us up on a road where only one way and many times when vehicles came opposite, we had to reverse and find place for others to pass. Its at about more than 3300 mts above and as we were there during snow fall, both the side of the road full of snow. Probably from Late November to Late February there wont be much traffic rather nil traffic. Lovely place there is a small hotel and please make sure to have winter clothing whilst during those period I mentioned.

Beautiful high altitude lake

Located at 3200m, you can drive up to the lake in about 75 minutes from Yerevan. It is a popular picnic spot for the city dwellers. The lake are circular with restaurants and camping ground on the shore. Perfect for swimming and fishing. The sunset was spectacular.

The starting point for climbing aragats.
Jul 2018 • Solo
Maybe earlier in the season the lake looks more dramatic but now, mid july its just a nice spot for starting and ending the hike to mt. Aragats. There is a hotel and restaurant and you can camp nearby for an early start. Its 22 km from byurakan.

Aragats and Kari Lake
Sep 2017 • Couples
It is certainly worthwhile to go up to Kari Lake at 3200m. If you have time, climb the rim (3450m) to your right and have a look into the crater. No, it is not the real crater (which is higher up and further away) but still very impressive.

First time in Armenia
Jun 2017 • Friends
It was our first time to visit Armenia and we did enjoy all the place we've been. People are very friendly and accommodating. This Stone Lake is a must see even if it is very far. We went to this place unfortunately, one of the staff from the hotel near the Stone Lake is very disrespectful. She didn't want us to get closer to the mountains since we are not eating in the hotel. As a resident of Armenia, i think you should be polite to all especially to tourist going to Stone Lake. If the attitude of the staff is like that, tourists will be disappointed going to that place.

Bird watching paradise
May 2017 • Couples
I came here in early may and the rides was not passable due to snow. The area is very beautiful with plenty of nature watching, especially birds. It appears this is also a good site for hiking with plenty of trails visible.
There is a very good restaurant along the road which served for at good prices. Many flags are flying and it has a good view of valley below, so hard to miss.

A must visit in Armenia
Apr 2017
We went in April and the road was covered in Snow patches at many places. Please drive with snow tires and preferably with chains. SUV/ATV is the best choice to drive to this place. We took rent car (Toyota Prado) from Hertz with snow tires.

The location is calm and not much crowded. The best part of our trip was view en-route. Unfortunately we were not able to go till the end due to too much snow on road. Few patches were icy and thus risky to drive. Roads are good!

Stone lake

Lake Kari is located on Mount Aragats at an elevation of 3250 m. It is part of the Aragats protected area which protects alpine flora around the Kari Lake and the adjacent grassland of Mt Aragats between 3250-3350 m altitude, the surface area is 0,12 sq.m; the depth is 9 m. It is possible to reach Kari Lake from Byurakan by highway. There is a meteorological station, equipped on the Eastern coast of the lake.
The lake appeared from ice formations. It is surrounded by snow most of the time and that is why water is rather cold. The river Arkashen starts from Kari Lake.
Road to the lake is beautiful and changing when you climb higher up surreal almost moon landscape. There is a part of the road with strong magnetic field. When you stop the car, and put neutral, car will start to move forward from itself, by magnetic field. Very strange powers of nature.
It's always cold there and usually snow in these hights, keep in mind, and wear warm clothes, specially when you intending to climb at least to the south peak of Mt. Aragats.
