I have visited Tegher 4 times to take the shot I would like. This humble monastery is photogenic in early morning or late evening sun from some distance and requires some walking.

13th century monastery has longer history and interior is very calm and nice. Place looks like it can serve also as protective place. Worth of visiting. Behind monastery you can find view to interesting soviet era radio telescopes.

Why my photos failed: Friendly villagers and home made vodka. Shepherds passing place are super friendly and will hijack you for khorovats.

When my cousin and I explored Armenia we visited the Tegher Monastery on the way to the Amberd Castle. This Monastery is about 800 years old. Like many of these monasteries in Armenia, it is far from the major traffic routes. And also, tourists seemed to come to that place rather seldom. But this had the advantage that it is a truly active religious place. The interior of the building was also pretty humbled which shows the focus of the church to the connection to God and to serve the people but not its representation of power. I liked that monastery because of its simplicity and quietness. It’s recommend to anyone who likes a peaceful environment and who is interested in Armenian culture and ancient architecture.

This monastery situated on the gorge is marvelous and must visit place. Not every tour agencies include this destination, however being in Armenia it's definitely worth to visit.
