Read the information on their website - very helpful and it explained many things before our arrival. We received a call to see if we could arrive two hours earlier than reserved as big thunderstorms were to arrive; this was great as we made the earlier time and would have otherwise had to cancel as the rain continued until the next day, when we were leaving Brown County. The horses were spirited just enough to please the first-time kids without scaring them. Riders were 35, 15, 9 and 7 and every single one had a blast! All commented they wanted to go again ASAP

My wife and I recently took our second guided horseback riding tour with Luke and his team...and it was just as great as the first experience! They do a great job of teaching you how to ride the horse and keep him under control so that you feel safe the entire ride. The trail they take you on is very relaxing, and they definitely keep you out every bit of your hour, if not longer. They also have other animals roaming the grounds that you can pet while you wait for your ride. They have horses of all sizes and can accomodate families of all types. Just a great way to spend some time in Nashville!

Great horseback ride for a couple of novices!
The trip was a surprise for my wife and couldn’t have been better.
The guide, Stu, was very patient and did well to pair horses to riders’ skill. He made sure everyone was having a good time and comfortable with what they were doing. My wife’s horse was Karma, which was so fitting. Great horse for her. For me, I had Hot Rod, and what a great horse. Of course he knew the trail and what he was supposed, but he was very responsive and quick to follow light commands on the reins.
I appreciate the good organization and timeliness of Schooner Stables. Being able to make reservations was great, and the small group allowed for everyone to remain active and get any attention they might have needed. Fun ride with several trots along the way.
I look forward to making another trip soon and bringing the kids to Schooner Stables.

This is absolutely the best stable! We drove 1 & 1/2 hours one way from Danville Indiana and it is well worth the drive. This is the only stable I am aware of that allows you to go faster than a walk on a trail ride. I first started coming here about 40 years ago as a teenager and when my grandsons (ages 6, 8 & 10) wanted an exciting ride I brought them to Schooner Valley Stables for the walk/trot trail ride. We were thrilled with the ride through scenic Yellow Wood State Forest as well as the fantastic staff who go the extra mile. It was so nice that they provide a small bag on the saddle to carry car keys, cell phones, etc. which I have not experienced at other stables. Also, they provided disposable head coverings for the grand kids to wear under their helmets which gave me extra peace of mind.

I've been wanting to get back on a horse for quite some time as well as share an experience with my son. Schooner provided that 100%. We signed up for the walk/trot 1 hr session. They were incredibly gracious, knowledgeable, and took all precautions necessary for first time riders. My son greatly enjoyed his experience on Strider while I relished to be in the saddle again on Karma. Fantastic horses.
I highly recommend Schooner Valley Stables for your first outing or your 100th.
Vicki was our guide. She is very personable, took time to let us get photos and made sure we were comfortable.
Don't trust your gps. If you're coming from the west (Bloomington), look for the Schooner Valley sign on your left. You'll be there before the gps tells you you've arrived.

We had a fantastic family trail ride at Schooner Valley Stables in Nashville Indiana. Two children and two adults were in our immediate party. Each horse was carefully selected based on our size, experience and our personality. I will say every horse is beautiful, well taken care of, happy, healthy, well fed, well maintained and above all well trained for our beginner riders. We had Splash, Strider Hot Rod and Spice they were wonderful trail companions! Vicki was our trail guide and she was a delight; very kind my kids truly enjoyed her and her knowledge of the animals! The guides were all very nice and informative took their time to explain and prepare every rider. The kids haven't stopped talking about our adventure and we already can not wait to come back!! We greatly recommend adding a trip to Schooner Valley Stables onto your must do list when visiting Brown County/Nashville Indiana! Thank you and we will see you again! #79888256

I had a great time on my trail ride with Stu as our guide! The horses were well-behaved and well cared for. Everyone in the group was appropriately matched with their horses and riding instructions were clear and easy to follow. I would recommend this place for both beginners and experienced riders that want a chance to experience some great Indiana scenery :)

Loved our trail time with Stu. My teen daughter and her friend wanted some horse time after we checked out of our cabin and Schooner Valley was able to take us for a noon ride. The shady trail on a hot July day through part of Yellow Wood State Park was gorgeous. We had both hilly and flat terrain and got up to a trot a few times. Learning the woods' travel history was incredibly interesting and Stu checked just enough to ensure we were enjoying the ride. After a rest to let the horses drink from the creek, we finished up back at the barn with happy smiles. They treat the guests as good as the horses! Reasonably priced and great escape. We'll be back. Thanks Schooner Valley Stables!

After riding horses in French Lick my son wanted to ride again somewhere closer to home. Being from Indy but we love brown county..and Schooners was recommended from a friend. They were very informative about how to ride even if you have rode horses before. Vicki was our trail guide…she was great! My 13rd old son had a great time and feeding the horses treats for a 1$ because we arrived early an extra bonus!
We will be back!

You cannot go wrong choosing this place to ride. The staff is phenomenal with their handling of horses and understanding of their horses. They pair people up with the right horse and the trail guide is very knowledgeable. We will definitely be coming back.

What is your weight limit if any?

They ask if any riders are over 220 pounds. This is in the online reservation system but you can still register for a ride. No one in any group I've been with has been over that weight. I suggest calling or emailing for a definite cutoff point.

what's the cost?
As of 4/1/17, our price is $35 per hour but that includes a helmet and saddle bag. Helmet is optional for adults but required for 17 yrs old and under.
