"Centennial Park" is one of Munster Indiana's most underrated hidden Treasures. But for those like me who knows the history? I can truly say, "I've found King Solomon's mines!" Let me explain why?
"Centennial Park" as it's affectionately known is a "miracle" of what man can do to live in complete agreement with God, nature, and his fellow men. You see this park was formerly an eyesore and a "stain" on the community of Muster, IN. This most prestigious park was a "landfill" full of death, decay, and mans disregard for the very land he is to manage. However, with an unwavering commitment to showcase what the citizens of Muster, IN would do to bring correction to their error. "Centennial Park and Golf Course" is truly a "Diamond" founded in the ruff!
Yes, this well maintained park is of course open to the public at no cost. It boast an Amphitheater [second to none completely wired for sound], a pond supplied with lake perch, ducks, and other aquatic life. Two wooden bridges that span over the water for a continuous trail, covered areas for picnics and barbecues, a state of the art "Jungle Gym" play area for the kids, a dog park exclusive to pet lovers, and an botanical garden nuptials book well in advance to take advantage of the most memorable and breathtaking scenery you can find "ANYWHERE" in the world!
Furthermore, the park boast a "signature" golf pro shop, and restaurant. Moreover, the clubhouse / main structure offers "ballroom" facilities for every occasion from business meetings to wedding receptions, church anniversaries etc. All moderately priced for the resident or visitor. I go they often because I just a few miles away and will upload the breathtaking views now that summer weather will put the park on full display.
So, if you're passing through or live nearby check out "Centennial Park and Golf Course", and you too will find the "Diamond in the ruff."

Munster’s main north-south street is Calumet Avenue. Crossing this street just south of 45th Street is an active railroad line. At that intersection the railroad stop was called Maynard. It was also the site nearby of a clay pit and a kiln to make bricks. The stop is gone and so is the kiln and only a clay pit remained. The Town of Munster used land south of the clay pit as a landfill. About 2005 the town planned to convert the land into a park and golf course by the time of the town’s centennial in 2007. Now the clay pit is an attractive double pond with a walk bridge. There are playgrounds, soccer fields, outdoor pavilions, entertainment stage, dog park, fishing, formal gardens, walking and bike paths, a restaurant called “The View,” and banquet facilities. The golf course is a 9 hole challenge designed by Ten Nugent. There is plenty of parking. Recently in the summer a farmers market gathers on Sunday morning. Admission is free.

Centennial Park is impressing because of his landscape architecture, the beautiful fountains in the lake, a fun playground for children, a stage for events like concerts and it is a pretty place for seeing the 4th of July firework. Some people fish there.
For children, it is great. You just have to keep an eye on the really small ones so they do not fall into the water (there is no fence) but the playground is far enough from the lake.

Worst park!!! I paid for the parking fee on 09Aug23 for 1 hours and still received a ticket for $45 in the mail. I didn't enter my plate number since my kid ran off and could risk leaving byself in this location! Stay AWAY from this park. Ridicoulous! Playground equipment is over 30 years old and rusting not worth the time. They are so lazy a camera does the work .. there is NO staff at this location. Boo hiss!

WILL NEVER GO AGAIN! I received a ticket, which has to be supposedly paid within 15 days, but by the time I received the ticket because it's mailed from Florida, I have less than a week to pay. I stay exactly 19 minutes couldn't find parking and the playground was overcrowded. I REPEAT WILL NEVER GO AGAIN

DO NOT GO THERE Received a 45$ fine for leaving after 9:00 even though I had a ticket purchased. I can’t believe this is how they choose to treat people for attending a park WHEN WE HAD PAID TO PARK. It’s also concerning how they were able to tell when we left the park. Ticket said our exact time we had left the park apparently. Not sure how they know that

This is a beautiful park to visit. There is a walking trail that goes around the park. There is a lagoon with a bridge over it and at night it is pretty with the lights shining on the water.
There is a band shell and they offer concerts in the summer months. There is a restaurant up on the hill called The View, the menu consists mostly of sandwiches, soup, chips and softdrinks. It has a nice view overlooking the lagoon.

"the view" restaurant at centennial park is a favorite casual lunch spot for my friends and me. they have very good sandwiches, which are reasonably priced, but we especially like to go there for the view. there is a lake directly outside the large windows and it makes for a pleasant and relaxing atmosphere. it just has a good "feel" to it. after lunch, you can take a walk around the lake. the only problem is that the trees are still small, so there isn't any shade. remember to bring a hat...

This is a good place if you want to take a stroll solo or with the family. They have a nice playground for the kids in the opposite side of the pond where you can fish (catch and release). It’s clean and plenty of space where you’re not bumping in to others.

It is hard to believe this started literally as a dump. Locals referred to it as Mount Trashmore and if the wind was right - ewww. The planners took a completed landfill and turned it into a jewel. There are paved paths to walk or bike, pets are welcome, fishing is allowed, There is also a bike trail running through the edge of the property along side the dog park and the golf course. A restaurant features excellent views of the lake and hosts not only regular dining but banquets, weddings, etc. There are shelters for picnics with playgrounds nearby. Music events take place in the outdoor theater. There are a couple of formal gardens, too. I drive past here frequently and there are always people enjoying themselves.
