- Jord & TomCambridgeshire, United Kingdom72 contributionsV goodPopped in on Sunday for a quick tasting. Complimentary tasting if your purchase a bottle, we did at $30.00, not overpriced. Or, if you don't make a purchase, they ask you to make a donation to their charity, not sure if they have a minimum or what knows, but good system. We had Suzanne, she was nice. It was quite crowded in there, couldn't practise social distancing at all. Also, the unsealed road up to the Cellar is ruddy scary, we did it in our Hiace campervan, but my goodness we wouldn't dare do it in any bigger, it's one way, cliff edge and no turn around spots, think before do.Visited September 2020Written September 17, 2020
- Stephen & SueCanberra, Australia2,453 contributionsNZ's best wine tasting experiencesChard Farm ticks every box - great wine, great location and superb staff. Getting here is half the fun, the drive along the narrow gravel road hugs the edge of the cliff at times and gives spectacular views back to the AJ Hackett Bungee Centre, or once you round the corner, down the Kawarau River valley to the winery. You'll notice a number of people stopping here just for photos as this is also a Lord of the Rings Film Location (PIllars of the Kings). The Winery is set in a lovely old building in a lovely setting and parking is right out the door. Uniquely, Chard Farm does not charge a tasting fee, but instead asks for donations to a local hospice. (During our visit they were instead collecting for Australian bushfire relief, a lovely touch), The wine tasting experience is superb - personal, friendly and knowledgable, and the wines, especially the pinots and chardonnays were among the best we've tasted in NZ (we freighted a case back to Australia). A must do if you're in the region and want to taste wine. Great wine, a lovely drive in, and wonderful people behind the counter.Visited January 2020Written January 30, 2020
- BriarleyAuckland, New Zealand2 contributionsWind your way into a lovely dropAfter a windy drive on what used to be the old road into Queenstown, we arrived at the cellar door of Chard Farm Winery. The beauty of the building caught our eye and we stood there for a few minutes to take it in. We headed inside and was greeted by Susanne. She lead the four of us through a wine tasting, with many of the wines catching us by surprise. Just as she mentioned, we enjoyed the chardonnay! Never would I have reached for one before I tasted this drop. When a party of 8 arrived unannounced, she handled it with ease and managed to look after them at the same time, without us feeling forgotten. You can bet we ordered a case to be delivered home to Auckland!Visited October 2020Written November 1, 2020

The lady hosting our tasting was very personable and the wine was delicious. I would highly recommend coming here if you're heading down the wine trail!Visited March 2020Written March 20, 2020

I had been coming to Queenstown for a few years but had never made it to Chard Farm before, this has happily now been corrected. Chard Farm winery is an absolute magic place. The views, the wines and the team was absolute joy. We went to this winery for our pre-wedding drinks and were hosted by amazing Pauline. We had so much fun with her: she told us the story of the winery, topped up our glassed with beautiful wine and cracked up hilarious jokes. We loved every second of our experience with Pauline!

I saw the reviews for Chard farm, yesterday, the day before we were leaving Queenstown. So, quickly made a call to find out if they were open, it being Easter Monday. This was the best wine tasting I’ve ever experienced. Pauline, our host, was a hoot! She was so funny and she knew her wines. The views on our way there, were so beautiful. Well worth the 1.5km unsealed road, to get there. 10 out of 10!
