Beautiful and tranquil
Dec 2019
The Weerribben-Wieden National Park, with over 10,000 hectares, is the largest continuous low peat bog area in northwestern Europe. A labyrinth of ponds and lakes. We started by boat at the picturesque town of Giethoorn. There are several boatroutes. Beautiful and tranquil once you are out in the open and leaving Giethoorn because this place can be too crowded. A must do!

Sint Jansklooster,a small viilage full of flowers in August
Aug 2019
Sint Jansklooster ,a small village not far from the famous Giethoorn was the pleasant surprise of my Dutch holiday this summer.I was there by car for the flower parade .I was told by my Dutch relatives that the parade exists from 1968 and it is among the top 3 flower parades of the country. It is always held in August and the village becomes crowded with thousands of visitors .I paid 7.50 euros for the entrance and I brought my camera.I stood there 2 hours eye to eye with dahlia giants ,being overwhelmed by the amazing huge creations ...I really enjoyed the happy atmosphere ,the street theatre ...the music ,being impressed by the work of the builders who put their heart into this show .The winner of the contest was Olympia ....if you are in the area in August next year ,leave Giethoorn and go there.

Lovely area

This area is lovely open marshland. It is good to explore for the local wildlife. Cycling is fabulous with quiet roads and trails. Boating would be good, if you have time

Lovely area to bike
May 2018 • Couples
This park is a blessing after leaving Giethoorn and its hordes of tourists.
If you have the time, consider biking through the park, having a picnic and relax, while you enjoy the nature.

Nice national park
Apr 2018
We rented a boat to visit Giethoorn, but we have been advised by the boy from the rental boat company to visit the park and it was just great. It was a great tour and we loved the view from the tower.

A piece of local history preserved

This park is one of the best kept secrets in Holland, certainly when a village like Giethoorn is a part of it. Visit one of the three visitor centres and find out how this National Park was formed over time.
Plenty of nature, plenty of lovely villages, plenty of places to eat and plenty of places to stay whatever fancies you the most.
You could easily spent three or four days in this park and still haven't seen it all. Go for a bicycle ride or just take the car or maybe you like walking or even take a boat trip (worth doing so), whatever you do you will enjoy this park.

As much as quiet you can get it in the Netherlands!
Jul 2017
We rented a kayak at De Kluft Recreatiecentrum for two adults. Nice people and easy going. They also provide a map of which canals are suitable and which are to be avoided. This comes in very handy if you're not so fond of getting lost... Kayaking can be technical at first, but after an hour or so you'll find yourself doing it like you are a pro.

National Park De Weerribben is lovely with a maze of stretched canals in remote country-side area. If you feel like enjoying the silence for a while or to escape the busy city life, this park is definitely worth paying a visit. A good way is by renting an electric boat or kayak, but there are hiking and cycling routes as well. In contrast to Giethoorn, for some reason this park isn't that much discovered by tourists, which is why it has remained its charm. If you want to avoid loads of tourists and jammed waterways, such as in Giethoorn (which is a stonethrow north-west), De Weerribben is highly recommended! Make sure you bring something to eat and drink and you're good to go for a nature day.

Wonderful boat trip
Sep 2016 • Family
Took a two-hour boat trip through the town of Giethoorn and the Park. It was Euro 10 very well spent. An excellent tour through a fascinating area. We had an excellent guide, Wim, from the Restaurant de Rietstulp in Giethoorn.
