We did the half day trip (7 miles) with 4 adults and 2 kids under the age of 10. We had a wonderful time. The river is gorgeous! We did run into some branches in a fast moving current area and flipped our canoe, but it made for a funny story. It took almost exactly 4 hours which included a stop to eat and a stop to play in the water. The weather was beautiful, we even got caught in a rain shower which was my favorite part. We will definitely go back!

We were looking for an activity that would allow proper social distancing and general safety during the pandemic. So we called and asked what covid procedures they had in place. They told us that they were wiping down busses between routes and sanitizing all of the equipment between uses. They also told us that the busses that take you up river were only allowing 33 people on when the capacity was about 75, such that every other seat on the busses was empty. They also said they were encouraging masks. With this in mind, we made reservations thinking it would be fairly safe.

When we arrived I was horrified. There was a huge crowd outside waiting for busses. The reservations seemingly meant nothing with how crowded things were. Not a single employee was wearing a mask, which was so reckless and showed an extreme lack of regard for the health of employees. I understand that it’s hot outside in the summer, but we wore masks and plenty of jobs require masks in non-pandemic times so it is not hard to do. Further, the statement that the busses would be at less than half capacity was a complete lie. They were school busses, that could maybe hold 75 children packed in, but with 33 full grown adults, there were only a couple seats left empty.

If this company was going to disregard the fact that we are experiencing a pandemic, they could have at least been honest on the phone.

Salutations!

I went to Cave Country Canoe on May 31st for a half day ride with my girlfriend and a group of people and we had a lot of fun.

It was my first time canoeing and I wasnt the best at canoeing, but it was fun with my friends. Water was hella high and there was a nice smooth current.

Time for a PSA for anyone going...keep your life jacket on, for real! Our group stopped along the way to use the restroom and eat some snacks & we all took our life jackets off. When we got back on the canoes, we did not put them back on. Well...our boat tipped and we fell in and I can't swim. The water had to be about six feet deep and I'm 5'10, but I was easily able to bop over to the side. My girlfriend was able to make it to the side, too! You may be a good swimmer, but you just never know. Always keep that life jacket on!

I will be back, everyone was friendly from the workers to the people just out riding. Very good family time!

This place practices the WORST business method! You make a reservation 2 days in advance and then you get there to find out you have to wait for 2 hours to get what you reserved. Didn’t know that’s how reservations worked?
The best part was the staffs excuses. “People were in the parking lot making reservations this morning. We could stop them” OR “There were so many walk-in we just ran out “
Bottom line, reservation to matter to these people.
Might want to think twice about going. Thankful we got a refund.

On the full day trip either paddle the entire time not stopping to swim or eat. You must make it back by 6 or you will be left. Left in the middle of nowhere. You might think about putting your own car in their lot so you will have a way back. Don't bother letting them know anything other than they are great wonderful. Any complaint just know its your fault not theres!!!!!! They take no responsibility for the people who make their jobs and business possible. Sad truly to write this after 26 years of enjoying the place but damn get left in the middle of no where and you get a feeling they do not care. I am sure they will respond with how it's my fault. Good luck folks, paddle hard!!!!!
YOU ARE ON YOUR OWN TRULY! Pray you don't get serious hurt, they do not come looking for you and they do not know exactly how many people are out there. Ask about their clipboard records.Someone can't count or didn't care.

We had a great time on the River. Our only issue was with the process of getting on the River. We were told to get there 45 minutes early for the all day trip, which we did. We had reserved the trip and paid for it several days beforehand. When we got inside it was chaos, didn’t know what line to get in for prepaid trips. Asking questions was not a pleasant experience. When we finally got through and signed our waiver we were told we still had plenty of time to get on the River. We had now wasted 30 minutes inside. We got our equipment and went to the tent we were told too. We stood there along with others for 10 minutes. We signed in there 3 minutes after our time to be on the River. An older women came down to the tent and proceeded to tell us all that the trip was shut down because of the time. When she finally allowed us on the River, the girls at the tent were yelled at and were told because of them allowing us through they would all be there till midnight. We were made to feel like we did something wrong. She was very rude ! Very nasty to us and the girls hauling the canoes. We made it on the River, had a great time and made it down in less than 5 hours. We were off the River in plenty of time. I would recommend getting there an hour early on the weekend and prepare for rude service. The River is awesome, getting on it is the hard part.

Hi Donna, Sorry for the late reply. I did look into your Memorial Weekend trip. Our records show that you arrived our location and were checked in by our clerk at 10:57 am. The trip closes at 11:00 am. 3 minutes is not enough time to collect your belongings and select life jackets and paddles. It has been our experience over the last 20 years that groups who can't start on time, rarely make the pickup on time, especially groups traveling with children. I am sorry if you felt our firmness was rude. Our policies are in place to protect guests and our staff from after dark pickups or problems/rescues occurring on the river after dark. We are thrilled that the river met your expectations and you are correct, arrive early on Holiday weekends, come prepare to start on time.

Don’t get me wrong, I really enjoyed the campground and the kayaking part. I did NOT enjoy the way the kayaks were put in the water. It was hectic. Adults cutting line sounds so childish but we had 3 buses pull in after us and although we were in line, they went in before us. There needs to be a better way for a line to be formed. I also feel the same at the office while loading up buses, everyone was just kinda running to get one.
Also I may have missed it on the reservation booking but didn’t realize there wasn’t water until we leveled camper and hooked up the electric before knowing we had to fill up at the community center.
I will still go back just some ideas I think that could make it more pleasant.

Hello and Thank you for your feedback. I do want to mention that our website, facebook and reservations office are all very clear that we have electric sites only. Our campground is very small and in the flood way so infastructure in that area is very dificult to get. We would never lead our guest to believe that the sites are anything more than electric sites with a river view. We don not want to disapoint anyone. I apologize that you felt our process for getting on the river was dificult. I can tell by your discription that you arrived on saturday of womens weekend between 10:00 and noon. That has been our busiest weekend this summer an is the most popular launch time. We do have guests checking in for trips inside and out. There is usually a crowd outfront as guests arrive in different cars, meet up and organize groups. On this day the busses were rolling one right after another to get everyone to the launch site. As you can imagine, peope do things in their own timeline. Some arrive at the river and reload gear, coolers, restroom and wait for friends. Some get off the bus and get immendiatly in line to launch. We don't and can't control this process. Our staff is their to put boats in the water and to assit guests with a safe launch. Anytype of amusment park line or corral is not our style and does not work our natural setting. Trucks trailers and busses have to access this river side area at all times. If you decide to visit again, and we hope you do! Talk with our reservations team about the best day and times to avoid crowds. Thanks again for visiting, and your feed back. It is appreciated.

My wife, 2 of our friends and I decided to do the 14mile full day trip during low water time...that was a huge mistake. We got stuck multiple times on rocks and had to walk our canoe through, flipped our canoe once due to the current sweeping us into a tree(We wasn’t the only ones who flipped here, as soon as we got the water out of our boat another couple had the same issue) and not much shade during the noon-3pm time frame. They say 5-7hrs for the trip but during low water I would plan for 8hrs. We stopped only 3 times for maybe 10 mins each time and it took us 8hrs and 30mins to reach the end. I wouldn’t recommend the full day trip for beginners. The staff was pretty good for the most part and the scenery was decent, but just keep an eye on how low the water is when you go.

I went Kayaking with a group of women for a bachelorette trip. We took the half day trip. The water was so low that we had to carry, push, or pull our kayak for at least 3 miles of the trip. The river barely had any flow, and at times the water was so stagnant it was covered in moss and smelled awful. There were no mile markers throughout the trip and you had to fully rely on the map to guess how close you were to the finish.
It took our group 5 hours to finish the trip and that was with only stopping once for 15 minutes for lunch.
I do not recommend this location, while yes part of the bad time was due to the water level, which is out of their control, but also because of the attitudes in the office. The workers are rude and do not work with you for refunds. We had a friend unable to attend due to a surgery, we cancelled them 16 days prior which was within the contracts rule for a refund. They refused a refund and then said I could use it as credit towards cushions for the kayaks, which we could pick out when we arrived. I then was told on arrival I could only use it if it was booked online ahead of time. I explained we are from out of town and could not use the credit for another day, they then just repeated AT me, not to me, that I would just have to use the credit for another day.
Happy Wedding//Bachelorette... I am now out the 43 + tax, and had an awful time on the river.

Hello again Jennifer, We have received your feedback again with your second review. We do wish you would update the status to acknowledge the refund you received. I will not copy and paste my first response but simply say, We all regret that we did not have our best forward with your group. We apologize again. There is no need to argue about the river, as river conditions are something we can't change. The breakup excuse: "Its not you its me fits our situation here. Blue River is a beautiful, wild, natural place, however river trips are not for everyone. We do wish you and the entire bachelorette party the best and leave you with some marriage advice. "A good marriage requires two people who choose to love each other, even when they struggle to like each other." All our best.

We stayed at the campground the night before our half day trip the next day. We booked a site next to the river going off of the map they provided on their website. The campsites were right on top of each other and there was no shade. The showers were luke warm. The canoe trip itself was nice. I recommend going if the water level is above 3 ft. The day we went the level was 2.76ft, and we bottomed out a few times.
