As part of the Robbie Burns walking tour in this area, it's a very good add on. Cool old graveyard right across the street from the museum. Wouldn't go just to see it, but as part of a trip to a number of Robbie Burns site, it's great.

Dating from 1516 and now a 'romantic ruin', this was the inspiration for the witches and warlocks in Tam o' Shanter. It is surrounded by a splendid graveyard which contains the tomb of Burn's father (his mother is buried in Bolton) as well as a huge neo-classical mausoleum and many fine carved gravestones.
Don't miss the holy water font on the outside wall of the church where pilgrims and lepers perhaps could use the water in blessing themselves without going into the Church.
To be seen at its atmospheric best, visit on a misty day or when getting dark...

Well maintained site with the Auld Kirk from the Tam o'Shanter tale. Robert Burns's father William is buried here, but not his mother. The gravestone is carved on both sides and is the third as the previous two were chipped and defaced by souvenir hunters. His daughter Isabella and two of her daughters are buried in front of William's gravestsone.

It’s a ruined old church with a small cemetery but, full of connections to Robert Burns. Most notably, as a key setting for Tam O’Shanter. There are lines from the poem on stepping stones dotted around the church. Also, Rabbie Burn’s parents graves are located here. It is definitely and interesting place to stop by and have a wander around. (It won’t take long and it's free.)

A quick stop-off in the rain during our Burns walk, we enjoyed this fascinating graveyard and ruined church, made famous by Burns’ Tam o Shanter poem. Featuring Burns family graves, some lovely tombs and some interesting Green Man imagery, we thought it was well worth a stop off on the tourist trail. Gravel paths, information plaques and a calm quiet place for reflection.

These church remains are so atmospheric and enchanting.Often you can find yourself alone there and have a real good look at all the gravestones. You can see where Burns got his inspiration for part of the setting of Tom O Shanter. It's beautiful in all seasons too

To be found on the main road opposite Alloway Parish Church. The grave of Robert Burns father can be found here and is situated pride of place at the entrance to the churchyard.
Interesting looking at the weathered grave stones, very atmospheric particularly on a dark dull day. Good to take a look.

You have to spend some time here, and absorb the spooky location, and take yourself back in time to when Burns wrote of this Auld Kirk featuring heavily in Tam O'Shanter, very evocative

Basically a Ruin, that takes a couple of minutes to look at, but lots of Associations with Burns Poems/Stories/Family, which are explained in its entrance.
