About
The Howard County Museum in Seiberling Mansion closes for annual cleaning and maintenance from January 1-31. The museum will reopen with regular hours beginning in February 2019. The Seiberling Mansion is an impressive Victorian home built during Indiana's gas boom by industrialist Monroe Seiberling. The mansion is now managed by the Howard County Historical Society and is home to the county museum. Multiple phases of renovation have returned it to it's Victorian splendor as an icon of the 1890's gas boom in Indiana.

The Seiberling Mansion is elegant, without being gaudy, and we were able to explore it on our own. One leaves with the sense of what life was like for a wealthy family in the early 1900's. We also learned about the contributions the Steiberlings made to industry and the Kokomo area. While we liked the whole estate, the ball room, with it's balcony, was a highlight.

It has been years since I visited this beautiful mansion but this is the first time I've visited when the home was decorated for Christmas. The mansion is well worth the visit for the magnificent woodwork as other reviews mention; however the Christmas decorations fill the house from bottom to top with delightful Christmas spirit. The experience took my breath away!

The Seiberling is a beautiful home and worth a tour. It is a must see during the holidays and trying to guess how many trees are in the house at Christmas is a challenge. Our family rents the Elliot house every Christmas for an 18th century ball and it is the highlight of the season. The price for rental is fair and the house is perfect for any event.

Going to be honest. The staff were wonderful, and things went semi smooth, however it's not much of a home tour. We were thoroughly disappointed in the fact that it seemed more of a museum for Kokomo than a a historical home to tour. They had a movie which we watched but were not prepared with chairs etc. The staff mentioned if we had questions to ask, however it would be SO helpful to actually have docent led tours to give you a little bit of background on the home, maybe then we would have some questions. We came expecting to here the stories of the home, the family and walked away with very little except to see some Christmas decorations. The home is also not really furnished with much. There are some interesting displays, but maybe we just expected a home to visit would have some way of bringing the home to life. As a side note we did have some issues with the QR codes (the few we could find) working.

We went to see the Seiberling Mansion and the tour guide was a wonderful, knowledgeable lady. She had actually gone to college there when IU owned the building. Her love for the house is obvious. The mansion is a wonderful display of artwork, craftsmanship, and history. A must-see if you go to Kokomo!

The Seiberling is a wonderful old building which is full of historical artifacts and information about Kokomo and the surrounding areas. It is well maintained and everything is presented well.

This mansion tour will take you back in time. The docent brought to life not only the structure but the people who lived in Seiberling and the time when they lived. Well worth a visit!

I have to admit that I am somewhat biased since I lived in Kokomo not far from the mansion for about six years and passed by it almost daily during that time.
The mansion houses some of the Howard County Historical Society collection. Highlights include a piano and organ, glassware, silverware, and toys, all from Kokomo and most from the late 1800s/early 1900s. They had a special Delco exhibit and an Indiana Historical Society display on the history of the automotive industry in Indiana. Neither exhibit would be worth a trip alone, but they added freshness to the exhibits and were worth the stop, if you are in the area.
I have to commend the Society for updating and refreshing as well as outright changing exhibits on a regular basis to keep the experience fresh. There are some favorites like the stoves on the second floor, but I saw several changes since my last visit 14 months ago.
MUST-SEE: Go to the third floor ballroom and work your way to the back. There is a small room off to the west side. Inside is a diorama titled "Who Killed Cock Robin". If you are familiar with the poem, you will find everything form it there.

The Seiberling Mansion is so ornate. If they were to build something equivalent today, it would cost a fortune. Simply amazing! This is a must see and glimpse of Kokomo’s history.
