For a fortress built in the 13th century and not really maintained, the site looks really good.
The access road is adequate, and there's a 15 minutes walk from where you can leave your car. No parking tho.
There are no facilities for food or drinks so bring your own. Most probably there won't be anyone else around, so enjoy the fresh air, the quiet and the magnificent scenery.

This 13th century fortress, although in ruins and not in the best of shapes, still stands tall on the top of the massive hill.
There is a short walk from the parking place to the top, but easily accessible even with small children and pets.
The view from the top is amazing, looking over one of the most beautiful villages in the world (Rimetea) and looking at the Bedeleu mountains.
A must see place if you're in the area.

If you're looking to experience some local history, take in amazing views of the Transylvanian countryside, and get in a little exercise in the bargain, a visit to the ruins of the Fortress at Coltesti (built in the 13th century and locally known as Cetatea Trascaului) is a perfect option.
It's a decent but not terribly difficult hike to visit these ancient ruins, and well worth the time to do it. From where we parked it took us about 30 minutes to hike up, but we were not in a hurry. The October sunshine was the perfect accompaniment to our adventure.
We visited in the fall, making it especially rewarding to see all the gold, orange, and red hues of the changing leaves in addition to the blue and gray of the mountains. From the top you have a 360 degree view of Coltesti village below and the surrounding hills and mountains. We visited on a weekday and had the place pretty much to ourselves, though as we were leaving we saw a bride and groom hiking up along with their photographer, for what I'm sure turned out to be some absolutely gorgeous wedding photos!
I highly recommend making the trip to visit these ruins, and I would also suggest combining it with lunch at Conacul Secuiesc in the village below.

These ruins are the landmark of Torockószentgyörgy (Colțeşti).
You can park the car and than have a nice 15-20 min walk to it (average efort).
From the ruins you have a magnificent view - it makes you to sit down and enjoy the surroundings for hours.
If you are with small kids you will have to watch after them more carefully because some parts of the ruins are really dangerous.

I was impressed by the amazing view over the surroundings. Take into account that you need to climb a bit, but if you are not in a hurry or tired already the visual reward from the top of the hill it worth the effort.

My senses were bewildered from the first moment I set eyes on the fortress. It is indeed a magnificent sight (I couldn't get enough of); still, I was dying to get to its top, so I pushed my limits and climbed the steep ridge in no time. The lush surroundings flooded my soul and caressing the enduring walls actually transported me seven centuries back. And I bet that even then, the churn inside and outside of the fortress walls was tamed by the outstanding peacefulness of the nature.

You can only image what this place was like in the 13th century!
if you can find it , well done, you can see it through a gap on the road for about 1/2 a second then it is obscured by the houses again. It took four attempts to find it and eventually we saw the sign.
There was not a person around, it was a half an hour walk up to the ruins and the views are magnificant. Romania is such a beautiful place and I am always reluctant to share it within anyone....
The ruins are still in quite good order , a lot of the walls are strewn about the hill as stones but it has been ravaged by time and conflict for hundreds of years, you woudl expect this.
It is only an hour outside Cluj by car, if you want peace, good air and some exercise then go for it, there are plenty of pensions in the area to stay. Not much else in terms of shops and restaurants but with some provisions you can make a good day of it
