This museum gives a great view in the life of people in the peat colony. The houses give a good impression in life over the last 150 years. What makes the museum very vivid is that it is not just objects in showcases. Step into...More

An interesting place to see the history of peat bogs in the Netherlands. The Harmonium Museum is also included and should not be missed. This museum has the largest collection of harmoniums (reed organs) in the world. They are well preserved and beautifully curated. The...More

A wonderful way to experience in a real life setting the harshness, poverty and dire circumstances of daily life in the Dutch "peat colonies". A history buff trip, interesting for visitors interested in social, cultural life in the not so distant past of the country....More

I honestly had no idea what to expect upon arrival, but was quickly impressed with all that there was to see. A cozy atmosphere, various train rides, demonstrations and even a boat ride! A lovely walk in nature which is perfect for both young and...More

We spent a week touring the north of the Netherlands including Veenpark. The Dutch people have worked hard to maximise the use of their land which they recovered from the sea. The wide open landscapes with every hectare used to grow crops or grass for...More

This is a great little place with loads to see and explore. We particularly liked the houses packed with items of Dutch life over the years. The baker's shop is definitely worth a visit to taste the freshly backed apple turnovers or raspberry tarts. There...More
