Massage therapist canceled 30 mins before appointment

I purchased a 90 minute massage through Groupon for Broad Ripple Massage Practice that I scheduled at 4:30pm on a Saturday. I don't normally spend my Saturday evenings getting a professional message, but I preferred to get in as soon as possible and that was the only opening available on a weekend within the next month, so I booked it and eschewed making any other plans that evening. They called me at 12:30pm the day of my appointment to confirm. I live 45 minutes away from Broad Ripple and the weather was inclement so I made sure to leave early enough to get to my appointment by 4:15 to fill out the necessary paperwork, as requested. At 4:01pm, when I was literally right around the corner from the location, Sammy (sp?), the massage therapist, called to say she had a family emergency and would need to reschedule. The earliest date she offered was a weekday more than 3 weeks out, and more than a month if I needed a weekend. I understand that things happen (although I have my suspicions about the authenticity of her claim), but if you put your client in the position of canceling 15 minutes before you've asked them to arrive, then you should try to be more accommodating on the reschedule. I would have seen another therapist, or come on a weekday evening around my work schedule, but she expressed little sympathy for the position she put me in having driven 45 minutes in crappy weather on a Saturday evening to be canceled on at the last minute for a service I had already paid for. At that point, I no longer wanted to give this business my service, so I told Sammy that I'd get a refund through Groupon, and that's what I did. I've found some great massage therapists on Groupon and plan to continue seeking out deals through them, but I've also run across some real flakes in the services industry, which is why I'll be checking Yelp reviews in the future before I buy them.

Am a member of Massage Envy, so when I was in Indy I looked up the local locations. This one in Broad Ripple, (kind of a fun neighborhood of shops and restaurants). After a day on planes, my back was a mess. Renaldo was wonderful! I was impressed with his understanding of the muscles in the body. He determined my soaz (spelled?) was out of whack. By the end of the hour, I was human again. Went back a day or two later and had a facial. Was impressed with this facility. The technicians were skillful, the experience was marvelous.

Awesome massage with Anthony. He found every tucked away stress spot. He uses a variety of techniques. The atmosphere was very relaxing. He had great music that wasn't the stereotypical massage "plink plink" music. I can not recommend them enough. I went as a treat while visiting family out of state for the holidays. I will go back each time I am in town.
