A little small but a lovely garden
Oct 2019
I enjoyed the hardscaping of the garden but they are a little small for my taste. I also visited the Zoo and there was a substantial fee for parking and an entry fee. I would have appreciated more gardens to visit.

Beautiful gardens close to downtown
Aug 2019
Our group visited the White River Gardens and Butterfly Garden close to the Indianapolis Zoo. The gardens are beautiful and offer a variety of garden styles and plants to enjoy. The butterfly garden is not large, but there was a good variety of butterflies in abundant numbers. It was lots of fun to try to catch that perfect photo! This is a lovely spot if you want to get away from the city for a while.

Needs More Shade
Jun 2019 • Business
Summer in Indiana is hot and the park is a great place to wander. It does need more shade however as all of the benches are in the sun.

Fun visit.

After our visit to the zoo we stopped by the gardens. Admission is free with zoo visit. The kids loved looking at the butterflies. It is not a huge building but worth the stop.

White River Gardens
Jul 2018 • Family
White River Gardens is located within the Indianapolis Zoo. This was our first visit to Indianapolis so we didn’t know what to expect. I saw on the zoo map that there was a butterfly garden and was surprised to find a large garden area also. It wasn’t nearly as busy as the animal viewing area so it really makes for a good change of pace.

Gorgeous place to visit
May 2018 • Family
We have a Zoo membership and with that we are able to visit White River Gardens as well. We took a day and just visited the Gardens and the Butterfly exhibit and it was so beautiful. I would come here weekly if I had time to do so. Outside we heard frogs near the lily pads, saw a birds nest and all the gorgeous plants. The only thing I wonder is why the fountains weren't working. Years ago when we visited the fountains squirted water out and the day that we visited (late May) the fountains weren't on. There was a fun activity center on the *inside* that included sensory play activities for little children, books, things to see, etc. The lady inside said that they change out things in there every now and then so while I have a picture here of a sensory bin and magnetic shapes, there might be other activities at different times.

Relaxing
Aug 2018 • Couples
White River Gardens is in the same area as the Indianapolis Zoo. Your zoo ticket will admit you to the Gardens also. The indoor attraction here is the South American plants with the various butterflies fluttering around you as you walk. They are very pretty and not scared of the visitors who come. There are not enormous numbers of them, but they are enjoyable to watch. There is an upper level here too. Outdoors are many themed gardens to enjoy. One has a toy train running through it that can be started by pushing a button on the walkway. It might take an hour to view everything if you don't tarry long. There are benches sit on throughout both indoor and outdoor areas. There is also a gift shop inside the entrance before the ticketed portion.

Don't miss the beautiful gardens!

This is the best part of the zoo for adults to explore. Beautiful ponds, shade gardens and pollination gardens. We enjoyed the butterfly sanctuary and strolling the grounds. Nice place to stop and cool down and enjoy a little quiet.

Highlight of Indy
Jul 2017
Butterfly Garden, loads of flowers, a miniature train. What is not to love about this place?? We used to go here on a family pass with the kids and they would play hide and seek with their dad among the arches and sidewalks.
