While touring the downtown area, we walked over to the Capital building and our guide proceeded to walk into the building. We had not given much thought of actually going in (who knew they encouraged visitors), but we were glad we did. Impressive from the outside, yet all the more impressive from the inside. The ornate design of the interior... More

Unable to take part in a tour, I stopped by after dark. The grounds are well lit and felt safe. Beautiful capital building on the outside, I can't wait to visit the inside one day.

Very similar to other state capitols, but still very interesting. Entry is free (you do have to go through security). There are guided and self-guided tours. I did a self-guided with a guide booklet and got to see a lot of neat things. The big difference seems to be that the guided tour gets you in to the house and... More

Beautiful building holding the offices you would expect in a state capitol, and where the state supreme court still hears cases which is not true of all state capitols. We parked on the street easily; not sure if off-street parking is available. My husband and I happened to be peeking into the roped-off supreme court room when a staff member... More

My husband toured the Indiana State House at 9:00 a.m., the earliest time available and, luckily, he was the only person on the tour. So he had the undivided attention of Carol, the volunteer guide. The tour starts in the rotunda, where Carol explained the history of the location and buildings that served as Indiana's capitol and the architecture of... More

We have walked thru a number of state capitol buildings, and Indiana's will hold its own with any of them. Take the time to go thru the simple security gate, and do either a self-tour or a guided tour (check for seasonal times). Stand under the rotunda and look up at the stained glass ceiling. Simply spectacular!

This is a beautiful state capitol building. I liked being able to stand in the rotunda area and see all four main hallways. The tour guide let us see the Governor's Office. There is a table with gorgeous wood that was made by the prison population in the state. The chambers for the House of Representative is small but attractive.... More

Walked in on a Saturday around 12:30 and got in for the 1pm tour. The gentleman (Jim or Tim) was very knowledgeable and did a great job telling the story of the building as well as Indiana's path into the union. Got to see the Supreme court as well as the Senate. I was surprised to learn that all three... More

Beautiful place. We were told when ever the doors were open you could go in. I really wanted to go in and see the rotunda but was sad to see the building was closed.

The Indiana State Capital was built in 1888 I believe. It is a beautiful stately building right downtown Indy. Inside and out it is just gorgeous. I could have spent hours just poking around in this beauty. I love old buildings, especially old government buildings and this one is fabulous.
