- Seaside3190642 contributionsA fine museum, inexpensive, easy, free parking. Very friendly and helpful staff.A wonderful museum. Small but full of great artwork, paintings, bronze castings and modern artists. A lot of great western artwork from the mid 1800's. Along with modern art and art from native Americans.Visited November 2023Traveled with familyWritten November 17, 2023
- SELarsenHillerod, Denmark119 contributionsHistory woven into and on displayAm impressive art collection, with a lot of history woven into and on display. The art display is split over two floors and there is a family experience center in the basement with a totem pole and a stagecoach. The is also a cafe. Highly recommend a guided tour. It was free and hosted by Ina, a musuem volunteer, who increased the experience tenfold. Her questions to make us ponder and reflect and a fountain of additional knowledge shared with us, made the visit very memorable.Visited March 2024Traveled on businessWritten March 23, 2024
- Sherry LFishers, Indiana706 contributionsFirst time!We have long wanted to go and glad we did. It was a surprise that there is so much space but not more visitors. It was well-divided with plenty of space to wander. Our favorite was the 1st floor with the Remington sculptures and old paintings. The religion exhibit was very educational, as was the upper level containing the Native American exhibits. Was glad to have visited.Visited May 2024Traveled with friendsWritten May 9, 2024
- GLMTraveler406 contributionsGood use of time! What a beautiful museum - enough to enjoy and be introduced. Security people were helpful and friendly. Interactive screens helped explain some of the items. A good cross section. Visit the museum store, too.Visited May 2024Traveled as a coupleWritten May 10, 2024
- RonL40Utica, New York3,589 contributionsRemarkable collection in a beautiful museum. The collection is outstanding, combining a superb group of paintings, sculptures and material culture from Native Americans to great art by Western artists. It is very easy to travel through the museum, which is dominated by several grand galleries. The museum's grounds are beautiful as well, with small gardens leading to the canal park. This museum is not to be missed!Visited May 2024Traveled as a coupleWritten May 16, 2024
- M C8 contributionsDefinitely a must visit! We spent a long time here - reading everything. Not only were we able to view artwork made by individuals of the First Nations but there was an extensive exhibition of artwork about individuals of the First Nations. It is a must ..... it opened our eyes to viewing these amazing individuals in a completely different prespective.Visited August 2024Traveled as a coupleWritten August 19, 2024

Roughly 1/4 of the museum is available to view for a variety of reasons, but the admission doesn't reflect it. The overall quality of the collection has declined considerably since my last visit a few years ago, and only vaguely resembles the museum of my childhood. Expect to spend less than 2 hours to see everything, including reading all of the text. It's mostly modern re-representations from the 1950s forward, poorly organized, all from an extremely Anglo perspective. This is a museum in severe decline that does not rise to the reputation it once held. This was the museum that made me fall in love with Native history and culture. Now it is the museum that makes a mockery of it.

The collection is limited in pieces and scope but, for an art lover, it is definitely worth a stop. The building itself is gorgeous and conveniently located to downtown. An exceptionally good cafe and gift shop add to this museum's appeal.

This is an amazing museum. We initially were attracted to the current quilt display which was very special. But we were wowed by the Native American art and history housed in an fantastic building. An entire area is devoted to the Native American history of Indiana. There's so much to learn and this is an incredible place to gain some knowledge.

I loved seeing this museum. It can easily be seen in less than three hours. There are four separate exhibit areas. American art of the west, Native American art and artifacts, a space for temporary or seasonal exhibits, and an interactive children's area on the lower level with access to the terrace and canal.
We visited during in late October, so the temporary exhibit was devoted to DÃa de Muertos ofrenda traditions. My Spanish speaking friends appreciate the bilingual signs.
The weavings were my favorite part of the museum. I also liked the access to the canal. We were able to step outside and enjoy a beautiful day for a while as we walked the canal. Reentry is easy and we also had free parking in the garage below the park next door. Bring your parking stub to receive a free parking code at the museum desk.
All of the staff were friendly and well-informed.

Wide array of artwork focused on American Indian and Western history. Friendly staff. Access to Central Canal from Terrace area. Underground parking within walking distance and museum validated. Was nice that there were puzzles of artwork for visitors to try to finish which allowed my teenager and me to really look at the work and have some fun

Absolutely one of the best museums in the country that teaches about the Native American and Westwood experience and blends into it the true experiences of Black, Latino and Asian peoples - showcasing their importance in American West history. The museum champions Native American art and supports young Native American artists with its Fellowship program. Just a phenomenal gem in Indianapolis.

I've never seen a museum dedicated to Native and Western Americans, so it was definitely different from what I'm used to seeing. Mostly art but some artifacts too. Much of the museum was under construction but the ticket price reflected that. The gift shop has a lot of unique items and artwork for sale too.

The Museum's architecture modeled the Old West and the Indian culture, thus, creating a very warm atmosphere to display the museum's collection. An excellent stop while in Indianapolis .I would recommend you take the time to visit the Eiteljorg.

This is a lovely museum that has improved with age and, apparently, will get even better when the now closed permanent galleries are renovated for a June, 2022 opening. But the is still plenty to see from their permanent collection on the main floor. Truly spectacular paintings and sculptures! And the gift shop is excellent featuring Native American artists. Admission was half off due to the renovation.

We did this on a spur of the moment after getting done at The Speedway and were not disappointed. The museum have a large amount of Native America paintings and artifacts. The music that plays in the background is so serene and peaceful you can loose tract of time.

The Jingle Rails exhibit typically opens about a week before Thanksgiving and runs through mid-January.

Is there a place in the museum for us to eat a packed lunch? We're on a tight budget and the Cafe is too pricey for us. We've always packed lunches for the Children's museum, but have never been to Eiteljorg. Thanks in advance!!

I would probably try just sitting on the coaches outside of the cafe. I agree about the prices. This is disappointing.

I will be staying at the Maldron Hotel this coming week. Does your hotel have plug in outlets for U. S. or do I need to buy a European plug in for my phone and camera battery charges?

You have asked your question in the wrong section. This museum is in Indianapolis and you are asking for a hotel in Dublin!?!?! There isn't a Maldron Hotel in Indy
