- Nicole HLaGrange, Indiana33 contributionsWon't visit againThis is our second visit in 7 years, and we forgot how much we were disappointed the first time until we went through it again and are still highly disappointed. Exhibits closed, no direction of any kind where you are at, and the app or map is vague. Our local ft Wayne zoo is well labeled of signs which way attractions are. Will not go back. Over priced over ratedVisited September 2023Traveled with familyWritten September 17, 2023
- Brandon WColumbus, Indiana62 contributionsFun visitMost of the. animals were out to see. Didn't enjoy the long wait for the skyline ride that takes you above the park. Make sure to have a wristband to ride the rides like the skyline and roller coaster. If you dont they wont let you on even if you paid extra for the adventure pass. A lot of bees around the trashcans, avoid them.Visited September 2023Traveled with familyWritten September 20, 2023
- TennG78Clarksville, Tennessee166 contributionsCome for the DolphinsMy wife visited on a chilly February Saturday in early 2024 during a weekend getaway. I purchased tickets online the night before and paid $38 for 2 adults. We paid for parking at the entrance and it was $10. We thought the zoo entrance was a bit awkward, we literally walked for 10 minutes before seeing any animal exhibits. We ventured into the conservatory mistakenly expecting birds and butterflies but it was just wet and humid with a lot of plants. Once we got into the animal area we had a great time. The draw for this Zoo is definitely the dolphins. Out of the dozens of zoos we had been to in the past this was a first. They did have a dolphin show which I felt was a bit short. Overall it was a good experience. We saw the majority of animals and only a few exhibits were not open. Parking was easy and the gift shop was clean and laid out well.Visited February 2024Traveled as a coupleWritten February 13, 2024
- CDTrip72Arlington Heights, Illinois261 contributionsGood and BadWe were in town for the NCAA tournament and since we had a day free on Saturday, we gave this place a shot. We’ve been to around ten zoos and compared to the others, this is on the smaller side and even with us taking our time and sitting down for lunch, it took less than five hours to see everything. It looked like they had some type of festival for kids, but we didn’t spend much time in that area. One disappointing thing is that most of the other activities and zoo chats were not being done that day. My daughter was especially disappointed around the gondola ride was not operating. I know it’s not peak summer season, but it was still a Saturday and a decent crowd considering it was Spring Break and with other activities in the city going on, they should have more things operating. Between parking and just paying for the basic tickets, it was close to $100 for the three of us so it wasn’t cheap. I was originally planning on just giving an average rating, but I gave them an extra star for two reasons: 1) They had a nice two-level building for a butterfly habitat, and in a different location you can pet the stingrays. While many zoos offer this, this was the first zoo that didn’t make us buy separate tickets, so glad they didn’t do the usual nickel and dime approach & 2) this was the first zoo we were at where they had a kangaroo exhibit and you could actually get very close to them and pet them if they got close enough (they didn’t when we were there but others were able to). It was really neat and my daughter loved it. So overall while it was a mixed bag, I would recommend others to come back in the summer when everything is operating, plus they will be opening a big chimpanzee complex that should be good.Visited March 2024Traveled with familyWritten March 26, 2024
- Denise K559 contributionsA great zoo!Overall, we enjoyed this zoo. They don’t charge extra for the butterfly and kangaroo exhibits, which we appreciate. A lot of animals were visible, as it was a lovely day. My son really wanted to feed the flamingos but it is off season for that. We got to pet a kangaroo and touch sting rays. The dolphin exhibit is awesome!Visited March 2024Traveled with familyWritten April 1, 2024
- DvedhdcChicago, Illinois4 contributionsSecond favorite of the 5 zoos in the States I’ve visitedIt’s hard to beat no. 1 on my top favorite zoos but still, this zoo is great. Yes, pricing wise you may not be ready to spend a lot especially if you’re visiting during a major event when naturally prices are high, but the ‘experience’ opportunities you get for the price of your entry are worth it. Got to visit and touch the ‘Roos, sharks, rays, lories and budgies. Bring sun screen, sunglasses and some shade cover (umbrella, hat, etc). There’s plenty of seating throughout. Wheelchair accessible even the event venue spaces have lifts. Absolutely would do this again but on a day when the giraffe feeding was open. Note, there is no hand washing station at the shark and ray petting pool. So wash your hands before and bring hand sanitizer for after touching then (or you can wait until before you exit to wash your hands at the restroom). Overall, great experience. The central canal is less than a mile away if you still ache for more indianapolis.Visited April 2024Traveled with friendsWritten April 8, 2024
- Laura Hudson7 contributionsEntertaining and Educational - Loved The DolphinsThe Indianapolis Zoo is a great day out for animal lovers and families. The dolphin presentation is a highlight, not just entertaining but educational as well. The grounds are well-maintained, and each habitat is designed with the animal's needs and visitor's views in mind. A great day out for anyone wanting to learn more about wildlife conservation.Visited May 2024Traveled with familyWritten May 30, 2024
- ambersX196TUSaint Louis, Missouri47 contributionsGreat zoo with neat animal exhibitsBeautiful zoo! I’m from the St Louis area and we have a great zoo there. This zoo has many a song things STL doesn’t. The chimp exhibit allows them to safely and securely navigate throughout most of the zoo. The kangaroo exhibit was amazing. Macaws show was incredible. The food, while expensive, was delicious. Overall great zoo experience!Visited June 2024Traveled with familyWritten June 2, 2024
- Angela L2 contributionsExplorer ticket - Buyer bewareI came with optimism to spend the afternoon with my adult daughter and compare the new zoo to the old one, where I worked the summer of 1980. I have a weak back and I bit the bullet for the Senior-Explorer option online so I could enjoy more of the zoo while sitting on the rides. It also includes feeding animals. Parking included, it was $60 and I stayed 3 hrs. Well, the train was closed that day and the Skyline line was too long for me to stand in. (It is a very slow-moving ride.) Animal feedings were at random times all over the park and I missed them all. (Stingrays were all day, but I arrived at 4:10 and it closes at 4.) And in the end, the online purchase saved me no time because #1, I had to take a shuttle from the farthest lot and #2, my QR code didn’t work at the gate. Standing in line was what I had hoped to avoid, but once at the register, they were quick to get me in with a flash of my email receipt. So I have to agree with other reviewers that my experience felt like a rip-off and buyer beware: “ALL SALES ARE FINAL.” I’ll just have to consider it a donation.Visited June 2024Traveled as a coupleWritten June 9, 2024
- WonderLustMomGettysburg, Pennsylvania126 contributionsWorth making the trip! So much fun. This is a really great zoo we had a wonderful time. The open kangaroo enclosure was so much fun. We only caught a small part of the 🦜 macaws show but definitely do it. The roller coaster was closed but looks like it would be fun. Lots of places to cool off and sit down. I would definitely visit again.Visited June 2024Traveled with familyWritten June 22, 2024

This is by far the WORST zoo I’ve ever been to! Almost everything we planned to see was closed and we weren’t aware until we got to the area. The animals seemed like they were medicated. The lines to see certain attractions were extremely long! I understand there’s a pandemic going on but I feel like they’ve had enough time to figure out what works for the business to run smoothly and they haven’t. It’s like they take your money you show up expecting to have a great time and it’s the complete opposite! I’m upset because I’ve been to a few zoos and expected this one to be a better experience considering I traveled from out of state and purchased a membership thinking I would want to return and it’s definitely not worth it. There’s no reciprocation meaning I’m stuck with a membership that can’t be used anywhere else. I would actually like to know who I could speak with about this.

We enjoyed the trip to the Indy Zoo with our family but it seemed overall calm compared to other zoos. The animals were not very active….it was afternoon but not very hot on the day of our visit. For the price, it would be nice to have seen or done a little more. We made it through the whole zoo in about 2-1/2 hours without rushing. They do have animals that are fun to observe and we got some great photos. Some activities inside the zoo have extra charges. Before you pay $3 to ride the sky lift, check to see if the orangutans are out and about. We did and saved ourselves money by not riding once we saw they were asleep. The sky lift gondolas hold only 4 people. A number of the snack or drink places are still closed. Parking is $8. Masks are still required as of mid May.

We remember visiting the Indianapolis Zoo when we were kids. This place has certainly changed. It has improved although this version of the zoo was not as good as the last time we visited a decade ago.
We went to the zoo on a May Saturday. Wonderful weather. Apparently many others had the same idea because we were not allowed to park in the zoo lot. We were directed to an offsite parking lot and were bussed to the zoo. This round trip added an additional hour to our visit (or we should say ate into our time at the zoo visit as we had dinner plans). That is disappointing enough, but when we got to the zoo drop off on the drive in we saw NUMEROUS open spots. That is super poor service and management! The bus was agast at the open spots and the ordeal we had to endure to spend a few hours at the zoo.
The shows were poorly done. We attended the bird show at the pavillion and the dolphin show. We also fed the giraffes. Each of these waits were longer than the experience. The bird show did not even have a working microphone so you could not hear the presentation. It definitely is not worthy of waiting 20 minutes for a maybe 10 minute show.
Not trying to be a Debby Downer here. The kids loved seeing the animals. Service and experience were lacking on this visit. Perhaps the initial parking issue tainted this visit. The poor quality of the shows we visited or the $109 price tag for entry for 3 of us all contributed to our lack of enthusiasm about this visit to the zoo.
We love zoo experiences. We have rated many zoo and petting zoos higher than 3 stars. We actually believe we have rated them all 4 stars or higher. This trip to the Indianapolis Zoo did not merit better than an Average rating.
Honestly not sure it would merit our return visit list. We have visited several times but think our money can be used better visiting other experiences in Indy.

we have been members since moving to indianapolis. we usually go about 10 times a season we havent been 1 time due to covid. i understand covid is nobodys fault and the animals still need to eat but offer the members something to show your support of them since it is not cheap to be a member. at least a all membets event or something to show support for people who are dedicated to you.probably wont renew this season coming unless someone recognises its dedicated members.

Just visited today, and while our children had a fine time, my husband myself and returned home very frustrated. This was our first time visiting. It seems like an awesome zoo when everything is open and functioning as normal but it appears the zoo hasn’t figured out how to handle guests during this pandemic. We stood in HOUR long lines, with only one window open to purchase tickets, order meals, see exhibits, etc. Received a flyer upon entrance notifying us of what all was open which was completely inaccurate. The website is misleading and inaccurate as well as to what all is currently available. Stood in line for an hour to purchase ride/feeding tickets only to discover most of this is closed currently. A waste of an hour. Waited in so many lines it just wasn’t worth this very expensive visit. The dolphin show, don’t even attempt it. Sold out so quickly, we didn’t even stand a chance for tickets. I’m sure it’ll be an excellent zoo when the pandemic is over, but until then, don’t waste your time or money.

I really enjoyed this zoo. I go to a lot of zoos and this was one of the best. The animals were very active and had plenty of space to roam around. This zoo is one of just a few that have walruses which was fun to see. The oceans house is one of the best I've seen and their dolphin exhibit is very nice. I recommend feeding the flamingos, I had a fun time doing it and I've never seen it offered at zoos. The elephant training session was also worthwhile to see. At the end we were able to pet the elephant. I would definitely go back to this zoo.

I don’t live in Indy, but coming from Bloomington (an hour south) and living in Indiana my whole life, I have strong, warm feelings for lots of things in the state’s capital. The zoo is certainly one of them. I’ve grown up visiting here dozens of times, marveling at the dolphins at the dolphin show, interacting indirectly with the orangutans through their glass enclosure, smelling the flowers in the on-site botanical gardens, and experiencing everything else the facility has to offer.
Albeit small, the Indianapolis Zoo holds a special place in my heart for my not-so-small memories made there. Admission does cost some if you’re not a member, but I hope you find it will be worth the cost. Food options are ample, and activities like the zoo train and a roller coaster will help break the monotony of animal viewing if need be.
I could go on and on, but I hope you are inspired to check out this zoological park NOW!! It’s one of the best in the Midwest!!

A joke for the price. We dropped an excruciating amount for 3 adults and 3 kids. Penguins were cool, if you could see them through the dirty and scratched glass. I've never seen a zoo with so few animals and the animals we did see were either asleep and mangy looking, or gone altogether. The train ride, which we were all looking forward to, was a complete joke. The girl running the train was rude if she went ignoring you. We toured the backsides of buildings, the highway, and poop. Educated about all the poop. Poop was mentioned no less than 4 times in the commentary. We saw no animals at all. Canned water? For $2.25 you don't get canned water. We tried 3 vending machines only for them to take the money and not vend. Even the flowers were dead. Never spend a dime on this zoo again.

We visited in early January so not the best of weather or timing but found ourselves in the area. It would have been nice if the website accurately told the extent of things that were closed; large portions were completely closed for the season and the website did not indicate this. Overall though my daughters had a great time for the exhibits we did see. I would definitely come back in the summer time when everything is open. What we did see was good though and it was obvious this would be a good day-long experience in the summer!

We are from out of town and this zoo was just okay. The best exhibits were the dolphins and the orangutans as those were very interactive and each had a lot of space in the exhibit. Some of the animal encounters (such as the Macaws) were shut down without any indication that it was not going to run at the scheduled times. There were animal talk times posted but most were at the same time so we would not have been able to do more than 1 in the zoo. Other larger animals did not seem to have a lot of space and the feeding encounters were not available. We did get to touch sharks and stingrays but were not allowed to feed them. The glass in the zoo did not appear to be maintained well as there were numerous handprints and other smudges that made it sometimes hard to see the animals and get any good pictures.
We also paid a premium rate to get into the zoo based on their calendar. Due to the lack of offerings, space, and animals to see, it was not worth over $30 per person, especially when the zoo did not seem very busy at all.
