There is nothing there except a pile of rubble - supposedly, they took out the theatre stage that James performed on before it's demise...

It is sad that no one could raise enough money to save the old Fairmount High School. The stage was saved and hopefully will be displayed the Play Acres Park soon but is currently being stored at the Fairmount Lions Den.

When I first started going too the James dean Show, they were showing his Movies in the high school, was pretty kool. but they stopped becuse of the deterioration of the building . Shame they tore it down !

This building collapsed. Some debris is probably still around. It has a wonderful history, turning out James Dean, Jim Davis who draws Garfield, Bob Sheets (forecast Hurricane Andrew) and Phil Jones, noted sportscaster. The nearby Fairmount Historical Museum on Washington Street will tell you more, and the James Dean Gallery on Main Street will give you maps and show you... More

After years of attempts at preservation, the high school is being demolished. I have heard that the school stage on which Dean performed while attending school here has been saved and is currently in storage, hopefully to be reconstructed somewhere locally. I was part of one of the last classes to graduate from Fairmount High School. It was condemned for probably the fourth and final time after I left there. The consolidation into a new school that combined many other smaller schools was then called Madison-Grant High School and was built outside of Fairmount and closer to the county lines of... More
