The food and ambience at this German restaurant was all that I had hoped it would be. The draft beer selection was amazing, and the mugs it was served in were heavy and cold. We had jagerschnitzel and beef goulash, and it was wonderful. The setting was a restaurant from the past with a long bar, which provided a good... More

Looking for something beyond the usual chain-food offerings while traveling, we were happy to find Gerst House. Authentic German food, huge bar with many beer choices, a sassy waiter, and a piece of history made it worth the drive into town from the highway. The meals were huge, potato pancakes unlike any I've had before, tasty spaetzel, and unfortunately no... More

My wife and I were travelling through on a week long drive down to the south and back to Ontario and on trips like this we search out interesting pubs and craft breweries to have dinner in. This place just was way too cool. The young lady who served us was just so friendly and sweet. The place had atmosphere... More

I was born and raised in Indiana, but have been living in one of Canada's maritime provinces for the past five years, where fresh fish is the predominant menu item. During a recent visit to Evansville I found myself yearning for German cuisine, and so a trip to Gerst Haus was the perfect solution. I love the old hardware store... More

My husband and I stop in Evansville when traveling between Georgia and Illinois. Just found Gerst and have fallen in love. Incredible service and great food. We will really look forward to our overnight stays going forward knowing we will have some great German food to eat.

Franklin Street is on the west side of Evansville and that has significant meaning to locals. This restaurant is located in an old hardware store that retains it's original facade and interior. A significant portion of the city's population was of Germanic origin. Put all those things together and you've got a great spot to experience the local version of... More

Went here on the recommendation of a former classmate. Food was great service was awesome. Had the appetizer sampler more than enough for 2 people but about right for 3. All portions were more than adequate.

Excellent local food. I love the atmosphere. I love the service. Everything I have had here from the potato salad to the burgers is delicious. If in EVV you need to eat here.

Fun place to eat, noisy but not distracting, fund ambiance. German food is excellent, and well served. I had the jager schnitzel and was prepared as it should be, and not such a large amount that could eat it all! For appetizer, try the sausage plate -- if more than two it about right, if less than three is more... More

I tried so many new things when we ate here last month. The food is amazing. I got the Rueben and my boyfriend got the veal. We also shared the sampler appetizer. Our server was so friendly and gave us recommendations. I will definitely return next time I'm around!
