What has happened to Garvin Park?
Jul 2019 • Solo
I had not visited Garvin Park in a little bit over a few years ago. At the time it was a great step back into my childhood years. Fast forward into July 2019 and the Park is in a deplorable state of decay. I was absolutely shocked at how run down everything in the Park has become. The grounds are littered with trash and the walking paths are being taken Overby Mother Nature. I was hoping to catch some old school memory photo’s to send to an out of state family member but what I captured was a Park in ruins.

Enjoy it Now, Construction is Coming
Aug 2018 • Family
This is a quiet, low-density picnic spot where you're able to park close to your picnic tables. Became a park about a century ago after the last reunion of the Grand Army of the Republic (and even a few Confederates). It was a farm before that, and was the site of a Civil War hospital, I think. The city recently decided to build a large indoor aquatic center here, and construction will begin this winter. There will be major disruptions for about a year and a half. Enjoy it while you can. The current outdoor pool, basketball courts and shelter will be demolished. The northern part of the park should go relatively undisturbed, but I don't know which roads will be open.

Beautiful Park and Spectacular Christmas Light Displays
Jul 2018 • Family
This is a beautiful park. The ducks and geese are friendly and it is great for walking. The Christmas Lights Displays are well worth the visit. This park does need better rules, local law enforcement patrols. People also need to be informed and held responsible for their harassment of the animals and fowl. Too many go to this park and let their children just run wild. This has the possibilities to be one of the best parks in the city with a little help from the community and law enforcement.

Nice park Needs better rules and enforcement
May 2018 • Couples
We love the park, espcially the geese and ducks and other wild life, we go every morning and every evening year round to feed the geese and ducks.

The geese are fedraly protected and yet there are no signs informing people about it. Parents let there kids chase them and throw sticks at them and act like it is totally acceptable to injure these beautiful birds.

We love the geese and ducks and try our best to protect them from idiots. dont get me wrong there are plenty of good parents out there and good kids but the ones who are not need to stay home. they ruin it for the rest of us.

There was a cub scout troup there just recently and the scout master was so busy talking with the parents they were totally oblivious to the boys trying to club the geese we had to stop them and stay an extra hour for them to leave before we felt the geese were safe.

There is a 15 MPH speed limit through out the park yet the only speed bumps are located by the ball field. they should be around the entire park to slow traffic down or law enforcment to write tickets as many people zoom through the park at up to 40 MPH childeren are playing all over the park and walk out from between parked cars as well as the ducks and geese.

They need to enfoce the littering as well. Many people fish the lake and leave old fising line lying on the ground and this becomes wraped around the feet of the ducks and geese causing major problems for them,

My wife and I have caught and untangled many of them and all that needs to be done is the line should be thrown away in a trash container, the problem is the trash containers are now located along the road only because it has to be convenient for the trash colleectors to pick it up not for the park goers to be in convienent places.

Yes they do have tubes located aroiund the lake that says place monophilimnet here but most of the folks that fish there don't even know what monophilimnet means. Its fishing line to them so they just throw it on the ground.

We walk the lake daily and pick up the monophilimnet and beer cans broken bottels ect and there are several retired folks that do the same but a few well placed trash cans and a sign or two would work wonders as well as maybe someone to enfore the rules.

All in all it is a very nice park , just needs some supervison on the citys part, not just a police car that drives through and never stops or does anything.

Please visit the park, you will love it but please obay the rules enjoy the wild life interact with it but PLEASE don't mistreat the wild life you are visiting they live there.

Potentially a Good Park
Jul 2017 • Couples
While I enjoy this park regarding its good array of trees along with the Bosse Field baseball diamond, it is not well maintained. First off, there are way too many geese which leave feces by the buckets full and the lake needs to be cleaned out every now and then. The greenway is pleasant but that leads away from the park and is a totally different funded amenity. The water fountain is a gorgeous setting and nice to see.

We went to see Bosse field and it was right next door. A big beautiful fountain , which was dancing water streams all around. We packed a picnic. Kids were playing on swings. Just a great time
