Was a very nice visit with a very cute little train ride for all that gives more history of the trains and shows off some of the different ones they have

Stopped here on a whim and wasn't disappointed I really like the fact that you can actually go inside some of the old trains even though they haven't been restored. So many museums you have to look at things behind glass but here you can actually put your hands on history

Set up opposite to the Elkhart Railway Station, this museum has items covering its complete history, with uniforms, lanterns, old tools & dishware from the diners. There is a very interesting model train layout. There is also a children's section to keep them amused. They have rolling stock outside consisting of a locomotives, two diesels and several different carriages, some... More

Great museum full of wonderful displays of the railroads past. The museum is directly beside active tracks and if you are lucky like we were you will see the Grand Elk railroad pulling their freight.

I buy a yearly family past...my youngest son's favorite place! From hands on roll play to outside adventures on real trains to a huge toy train layout there so much to enjoy. It's history made fun! A very special place and I am happy it's here in my home town!

We love trains, but wouldn't consider ourselves experts or anything. We were just looking for something to do in Elkhart to pass a little time and are SO glad we found this museum!! We spent almost 2 hours having a wonderful time looking at all of the very well-displayed exhibits. We loved climbing into a few of the old train... More

You have to get off the interstate-and look a little bit-but the NY Central Museum is well worth the detour! Plenty of history for the adults to enjoy AND they do a really nice job of having interactive displays for the younger railroaders. Most seasons, there is a large train layout to enjoy and, at Christmas, the museum is really... More

With a friendly knowledgeable staff, detailed time line and rail maps dating from mid 1850s to the present, plus a working model train set this small but well laid out railroad museum is worth the price. Situated next to the current rails, this museum blends the past with the present. The 2700 piece model train set has some hand on... More

In Elkhart, IN there is a NY Central RR Museum? Yes. 100-200 trains pass by each day! Outside: Steam Engine 3001. A small train for children to ride! Many old cars to explore! Inside: beautiful dioramas and displays, many HO, N trains running! Friendly staff. A slower paced museum with a small train store. You'll love the history here!
