- THINGS2LIVE4Rocky River, Ohio2,681 contributionsCan get to without going on TurnpikeI have stayed at stationary RVs via Air BnB, they have been some of favorite travel accommodations. This museum is a unique hidden gem. Winabago is headquartered in this area. The best thing about this museum is that they let you climb into some of the RVs.Visited April 2024Traveled soloWritten April 12, 2024
- Dave CAlexandria, Virginia1,614 contributionsA Very Cool Place, Hidden GemThis is really a hidden gem. Even if you don't get into RVs and mobile homes, this is such an iconic piece of America and such a well-done museum that nearly anyone would enjoy it. The displays have a series of mobile homes and RVs/campers that are well-restored or very original, including some singular historic pieces such as the oldest known RV and Mae West's RV. You can go in some, but others have to be viewed via window; some step stars would have been appreciated here in front of some. The last part got a bit commercial but guessing they took displays from active makers and incorporated that into the museum. A little hard to get here form the highway due to the exits and backroad but worth it.Visited June 2024Traveled as a coupleWritten June 28, 2024
- Bruce M.Harrow, Canada21 contributionsWell worth the time. Was unaware that 80% of RVs are manufactured in and aroud Elkhart. This museum explores the history of the origins and development of the camper trailer and motor home from the covered Conestoga wagons to the modern luxury coaches available today. With many examples on display, it is very interesting to see how they went from being a simple basic trailer with a couple of beds to having expandible living areas, kitchens, bathrooms, etc. A very interesting place to visit and time well spent.Visited July 2024Traveled soloWritten July 30, 2024

This used to be a wonderful museum for rv and camper lovers. Great chronological display starting with modified Model T’s from 1914 up to and including modern rvs. RVs were displayed along a “winding road” with bits of Americana for interest and as scenery. There were also a series of dioramas showing how rvs are constructed. It was instructive and fascinating for fans.
Well, that’s all been jumbled together and replaced. Chronological display is now a confusing combination of vehicles randomly packed together with the addition of a lots of not too interesting “big donor” and signature vehicles from YouTube channels (advertising anyone?). The diorama was replaced by a blatant advertising pitch of model homes for prefab construction. The manufacturer of which is the number one donor to the the museum and the only member of the “Circle of Honor” club. A sales office planned for the middle of the display. So that may be OK. Use the museum as a marketing tool for new prefab homes…but charging admission to see it is ridiculous!!
Go if you love advertising, not if you love rvs and camping.

Americans have been restless for over 300 years. This unique, interesting and entertaining museum shows some of the more intriguing ways people conquer living on the road. Great staff, excellent location, and a wonderful presentation. Happy trails.

We planned our 3rd trip to the museum for late March and anticipated staying in their parking lot overnight.
We have a class A motorhome and most RV Parks are closed at this point in the year.
The museum was open and we did the tour one more time and thoroughly enjoyed it.
Amazing how the RV Lifestyle dates back so many years, and how the organizers have managed to gather such an extensive collection of units.
Interesting how the similarities for yesterday and today remain.
Well done folks and thanks to the organizers and supporters for creating such an interesting venue, and for allowing us to stay in the lot.

Call before you go. We paid full entry price and then found out the museum was being remodeled. This museum has potential, but is since it is being remodeled everything is outdoors and the trailer information is inside the closed trailer so you have no idea about the history of most of them. We were very disappointed, had we known about the upheaval of the displays we would not have gone.

My husband surprised me with a visit here on our vacation. Our dream is to someday own an RV. If you never wanted one before, you will after visiting here! I thought the admission price was a little cashy, at $12 a person. But going in the RV's, seeing the retro ones to the very old ones, etc was very neat. The gift shop was overpriced.

We were so excited to see this spot! We love the subject of RVS & we were looking forward to the surprise bonus of the manufactured home tour. 1st we enjoyed the little gift shop, & the movie showing the history of how the museum started & how they were updated the manufactured home area to be done by July. We are here the end of Aug. perfect timing.
We enjoyed looking at the RVs that where there but… they were all mashed up in the area with no flow or rhyme or reason, the lighting was poorly done, you couldn’t see inside of some of the RVs, they even used hot crappy shop lights. We were looking forward to seeing more on like how they made the 1st holding tank, or how they came up with the 1st inside toilet or something. We thought they show them by year or make even.
We then moved onto the manufactured home area & it was closed still! Even though they said on the movie, that it would be opened. We walked away feeling ripped off by paying the full ticket price & getting a 1/2viewing.
We then went upstairs to see the pictures & bios on those who made it to the Hall of fame. The people who where there work hard I’m sure, but they where just salesman & great corporate people. We thought we’d see… people who were the 1st to make the indoor shower, or the 1st rolling awning.
We were completely disappointed.

We visited her on March 19 mid morning and had the place to ourselves. It was fun seeing the collection of RVs ranging from 1913 to the present. One striking thing we noticed in the "Hall of Fame" is how few women have received accolades in this industry. Personality feel that sad. I hope going forward more women will become involved in this growing industry.

We discovered this museum while searching for things to do on a Sunday when little else was open. While I’ve never been lucky enough to actually use an RV or MH, I’ve always dreamed that I would. This place was so interesting. Loved the progression from the really early campers to the latest mega motor home.

Traveling across United States from Florida to CA in our motorhome and staying near Elkton. Crossed this off our list of things to do. The museum is interesting to see all the motorhomes from the late 1800’s to the 1980’s. Disappointed there weren’t more modern 5th wheels and motorhomes to also look at, but maybe once the new addition is open there will be.

How does it take to walk through the exhibits?
Written June 8, 2017
You should allow about two hours to see all the exhibits. It would take less if you don't go into the vehicles to see the insides.
