My husband and I took the architecture tour in Columbus. We were shocked at what we saw (all good!) and the famous architects who have left their mark with impressive architecture scattered throughout the town. North Christian Church was my favorite. Contemporary yet soulful. It has left a lasting impression with me that I cannot forget.

While primarily a house of worship and gathering place for church members, North Christian Church inspires even the non-religious. The spire carries your eye upwards and the stone and steel construction provides a feeling of security as well as a serene place to contemplate the majesty of God and the creative skills of mankind.

Beautiful church with interesting design. The spire is very tall and there is an oculus at the base to let light into the sanctuary. A unique design seats the congregation semi-circularly around the center of the sanctuary. A moveable alter in the center is also a unique feature. Worth seeing, but if you can only see one church in Columbus,... More

North Christian Church, completed in 1964, was designed by Eero Saarinen, the Finnish-American architect and industrial designer who is famed for the St. Louis Gateway Arch, the TWA Flight Center at JFK, and the Tulip Chair, among many other notable creations. The church grounds were landscaped by Dan Kiley, and remain intact for the most part. The church, hexagonal in... More

North Christian Church may not be the best site to visit for everyone, but for those who love architecture and landscape architecture it is a must see. The church is designed by Finnish-American architect Eero Saarinen. However, the surrounding landscape is mostly still intact and was designed by Dan Kiley.

We took a bus tour of the city. This church was one of the high points of the tour and the city's architecture. We recommend the tour. We were able to see the inside of this facility!

The "oil-can" church, First Christian has a beautiful, faceted structure with gorgeous wooden-paneled interior, and altogether a Scandinavian mid-century-modern feel.

This building is an interesting complement to some of the more symmetrical brick architectural designs of the area. Known for its top that isn't quite-high-enough for building codes and flashing lights for airplanes, the church is worth the visit as part of the architecture tour.
