North Christian Church, completed in 1964, was designed by Eero Saarinen, the Finnish-American architect and industrial designer who is famed for the St. Louis Gateway Arch, the TWA Flight Center at JFK, and the Tulip Chair, among many other notable creations. The church grounds were landscaped by Dan Kiley, and remain intact for the most part. The church, hexagonal in... More

North Christian Church may not be the best site to visit for everyone, but for those who love architecture and landscape architecture it is a must see. The church is designed by Finnish-American architect Eero Saarinen. However, the surrounding landscape is mostly still intact and was designed by Dan Kiley.

We took a bus tour of the city. This church was one of the high points of the tour and the city's architecture. We recommend the tour. We were able to see the inside of this facility!

The "oil-can" church, First Christian has a beautiful, faceted structure with gorgeous wooden-paneled interior, and altogether a Scandinavian mid-century-modern feel.

This building is an interesting complement to some of the more symmetrical brick architectural designs of the area. Known for its top that isn't quite-high-enough for building codes and flashing lights for airplanes, the church is worth the visit as part of the architecture tour.

In lots of travels, we have visited and admired many churches. This one, without a doubt is the most unusual we have ever see. Both the outer structure and the inner structures of this holy place are awesome. It is another outstanding example of the progressive architecture typical of Columbus.

I've photographed more than 100 churches throughout the United States and the North Christian Church ranks in my top 10! The architecture is unique and amazing. I was fortunate to have the interior of the church to myself. Typically it's a challenge getting the lights turned on, but there were instructions on the wall as I entered the church. The... More

Exploring this well known architecture of Columbus, Indiana is worth the time. It is a beautiful designed church, very unique with the classrooms and offices and meeting rooms surrounding the inner church. Lovely done.
