This is a nice area close to town to head out for a flat walk. It's a bird sanctuary and wildlife preserve but we didn't see anything too exotic. Still the walking paths are well maintained and fun to explore.

Unique to Tasmania. If you are into birds (and snakes) you’ll get value for money here. Concessionary entry charge offered to non-Australian pensioners, too.

Allow at least 90 minutes for the return walk, but spend time in the visitor centre first to key in what you can see. Enjoy the quiet of the wet-lands but probably best to stay to the paths.

A lovely walk through the wetlands ending on Tamar Island for a picnic lunch. Many varieties of bird life to be observed on the way there and snakes sunbathing below the board was was very interesting.
