Once you are in Athens, a visit here could render you night unique. First thing you have to do is to check in the website when your visit could be carried out. Then if weather conditions are good (which is not a rare thing in Athens) you should go there and you will gain an interesting and beautiful evening. Please note that although the staff (e.g. Professors, assistants etc) speaks English, the presentations are in Greek, therefore it is better to go with a Greek friend if you don't speak the language. The entrance fee is only 5 Euros and your visit will be consisted of 3 parts. In the first part you will watch a documentary on universe and astronomy, in the second some Professors will make some presentations about Astronomy and the Observatory and in the third and most "magical" part you will go upstairs in order to look through (all the visitors) the telescope. Depending on season, weather conditions etc you might see the Moon, Jupiter, a star, maybe a comet and many more. If the crowd is not big you will have more time to watch. At the end you can stay outside the building for a while to watch the beautiful view of Athens in the night. Before the presentation you could also have some snack or coffee in the café enjoying the view. In the near by area there also restaurants and cafes and some other attractions such as one of the houses of the Duchess of Placentia. I have been there 3 times so far and definitely I would go again. One time is not enough.

We took our daughter here for a visit as she is fascinated by the stars and planets. The night was clear and we were treated to a nice view of Saturn from their telescope. Make sure the night is clear to get the best possible views. No stress here, just enjoyment.

This place is not open every day and it has limited seats as well, so prepare your visit in advance. There is also a cafe inside the building.

Went to buy tickets the lady selling tickets told us to come back at 10 for the English tour. Come back at 10 for the tour they told us the tour was over, and come back another day. It was awful. I am not sure how they could not know when there tours our especially the person selling the tickets.

I think that everyone with astronomical, pragmatological, theological etc curiosity should visit the observatory. I've spent two evenings there and will surely go back again. The talkers may even indulge in a little philosophy of you're lucky.
All in all a lovely experience.
My dislikes are:
The data own to the public are very few.
The discussion's objective is to make an introduction to the uninitiated and won't stray from it.
The telescope you see in the pictures on noa.gr is actually decommissioned, they are using a much smaller one (thank the non existed funding for that).
I'd love to see the telescope being let (on loan of course and with professional crew praying it) to individuals for a few nights every month...

A very nice place to visit (a bit far) especially if you have children I think they will enjoy it. Don’t have to be a star lover, just enrich your brain a little!

I visited the National observatory of Athens a Saturday evening. The gates open at 19.00 and everyone is advised to be there as early as possible as there is a certain number of people that can visit. The presentation begins an hour later, with basic information about the history of the observatory, what space is and what science does. Due to bad weather conditions we weren't able to look through the telescope, although we got the chance to have a close look at it.
The national observatory of Athens is open for the public on certain dates, so check before you visit. The entrance fee is 5 euros for the adults. The presentation is in Greek. I don't think it is suitable for children under 10 years old as it might be hard to comprehend.
I will be back for sure!
