We first met David in February 2021 for a birding trip in southern Indiana which, unfortunately, was limited to only a day and a half because of an impending blizzard and frigid temperatures. We had never been to Central America and we were not sure that we would ever travel there. After our brief time with David, we knew we had found someone that we could trust to provide a great introduction to that part of the world. He knows the local guides, local lodges, birding hotspots, etc. Travel between lodges was well-planned as were all the other details—including on-site testing for COVID the day before departing for the U.S. David is a knowledgeable, pleasant man who makes everyone comfortable and welcome.

From the first stop to the last, David found for us all our “wish list” species with a few added treats at sunset like the American Woodcocks and the coyote chorus. So knowledgeable and informative, just a perfect way to spend time with family or friends. Indigo Birding Tours never disappoint.

Not only could one see birds of the jungle, birds of the wetlands, occasional iguanas, but Mayan temples, and enjoy exquisite food and lodges, and transportation along an ancient river on a boat. Though a birder's spouse, I loved every minute and enjoyed every bird. I would pack my bags and go back in a minute.

If you are interested in exploring the birdlife of Central America, we recommend David Rupp’s IndigoBirding tours in the strongest possible terms. The eco-lodges that David has selected are all of the highest quality, beautifully situated, with comfortable accommodations, fine food, and expert, gracious staff. Tour logistics—arrival and departure, transfers, etc.—are carefully and smoothly managed. David himself is not only a highly expert birder but a personable, engaging, and considerate tour director, closely attentive to participants’ interests and needs and unflappable in a crisis. The members of our group ranged from very experienced birders to absolute neophytes and all had an outstandingly good time.

This was such a fantastic weeklong trip. Everything was well thought out and David took such great care of our group...from our accommodations to our meals to having excellent local guides who enhanced and enriched our experiences. We saw, and learned about, so many different species of birds (180+). Not only did the guides help us spot many of the birds, we also learned about the culture and history of the areas we visited. This was my first guided tour, outside of daytrips, and David has set a high bar for others to follow. I highly recommend it!
