The only road you have to go on to get onto the Lochside Trail (this Trail links up with the Galloping Goose Trail near Uptown in the South Saanich part of Victoria) from the Swartz Bay ferry terminal is Land’s End Road. You do not have to go on the highway. There are a few road crossings along the way but none of them are highway crossings, just side roads, most of which are not very busy.
