Had not looked into this destination at all (my fellow travelers did) and was quite surprised to see the "diamonds" on the black sand. The contrast was incredible and unexpected - sort of a "have to see it" as I am not sure pictures do...More
We stopped here after our ice cave tour. Simple drive or walk across the street. I suggest first walking to the beach on the south side of the canal and then driving over to the north side. When we were there they were both beautiful...More
Worth the drive. The lagoon and glacier cave tours are as well of course, but the ice beach is phenomenal, so much ice (quick walking distance from the parking at the Glacier Lagoon). There’s two sides to the beach, the far side (further side of...More
Was amazed to see incredible pieces of ice that looked like someone had carved them just sitting on the black sand beach, quite a contrast!
This place is literally on the other side of the road from the glacier lagoon parking so you can enjoy...More

No, if you only want to see the Diamond Beach it is not worth it as worst case there are no ice cubes on the beach. But if you consider just on the other side of the bridge (150m), there you have a very nice view onto the jökulsárlón glacier lagoon. Also on the way there you will pass the Seljalandsfoss and the Skógafoss (you can't miss them they are just beside the main ring road). So if you get up early, you can fit in all of these and it's really worth to go.
Definitely make the trip. The beach is not so much worth the trip as it is a black sand beach with broken chunks of ice. In the winter it might be much better that other times of year. However, the lagoon just across the... More
Definitely make the trip. The beach is not so much worth the trip as it is a black sand beach with broken chunks of ice. In the winter it might be much better that other times of year. However, the lagoon just across the road is worth the trip. We had an absolutely amazing time seeing the large chunks of icebergs in the water and the massive glacier in the background that supplied the lagoon. Also along the way are some amazing waterfalls and must see pull offs. If you plan to do the golden circle tour you are already on your way or could swing by easily on the return trip. Definitely plan to make an entire day of the drive and plan to stop a couple times to see the plentiful sights and towns between.
