Ethiopia is full of small local museums with interesting local finds. This one is rather better than average, with a good chronological survey of what has been found in and around Axum. Worth a visit, especially before touring the city's sights.

This small museum has little in the way of explanation, so you either need good knowledge of the history of the area, or a guide. In addition, many of the displays show signs of decay and could do with conservation, as well as better conditions to improve the longevity of this collection.

Interesting relics in the museum. Signage and displays could be so much better. Having a guide made a huge difference as each item was explained and given context.
Sad seeing such old relics shoved in cupboards and glass cabinets.

The Axum Archaeological Museum could have been an amazing place.
The collected artefacts are rich, varied and fascinating.
However, the display is disappointing, to say the least.
Everything is crammed into cabinets, extremely dusty and poorly lit.
The end result is that you cannot really see or appreciate anything.
This is a great pity because it is easy to see that with proper illumination and spreading out of the artefacts, plus cleaning the plce and adding good informative labels, this could be an amazing museum.
Great Pity!! The Authorities Should Invest and Improve It!!!

A lady working at the museum chatted to us for a few minutes about the museum and said that if we had any questions we could ask her. Had a walk around for about 20 minutes and saw a variety of objects found in the tombs. Also saw some aksumite coins and many other items of interest. The museum itself was well laid out. There are handicraft shops just outside too. It's best to have a day sightseeing with a guide to take in the stelae, tombs and museum etc.

This is a better museum than to one in Addis Ababa. Very good displays and attractions. Lots of history.

Small, dark, unlabelled collection of religious knick-knacks. Would be dire without a guide, but a reasonably interesting 20-minute site if you someone to tell you what you're seeing.

At the end of Stelae Park is the entrance to the museum. Photos not allowed inside, but it’s a small hall with many wallpapers, few old jars and utensils. Few minuets is enough unless you have a time to read.

This museum has seen better days. They ARE building a new one, next door. They maybe they can actually show off all of their artifacts.

I think no point to see this museum but if you are there just visit for few minutes, better to go with a tour guide to explain you the paintings.
