Great Hiking, Nice Campground

The facilities were clean but could use a little TLC. There are many trails with varying difficulty levels either directly from or withing a short walk from the campground.

We ventured to Mississippi Palisades State Park as a day trip, from Chicago. It takes only a few hours to get there, and I was excited to see the view from Sentinel trail. We started in the southern end of the park, and started on the Sentinel trail, it isn't as "rugged" or "difficult" as I thought after reading reviews... More

The park was pretty and generally well maintained. The campground looked nice, though we did not use it. We hiked some of the north side of the park which had gentler inclines and generally wider trails. Though I would recommend pants or high socks as most areas had tall grasses, even on the trails. Bug spray is a must! Much... More

Very well kept park and camp grounds. Took some great shots of the Mississippi River from the look out points

Great place to spend some time outdoors. Don't forget your camera. Most paths involve either steps or steep slopes.

This park was my destination for a Sunday afternoon road trip on the Great River Road. It's a nice park with an outer drive with several overlooks with wonderful views of the river. I stopped at Lookout Point, Oak Point, Louis Point, and Ozzie's Point overlooks. The overlooks have boardwalks and viewing decks that show the river at its grandest.... More

A wonderful state park with Scenic viewpoints overlooking the Mississippi River. Some require a 1 mile or more hike on moderate to steep terrain. We chose the sentinel rock trail which was 1.2 miles one way on mostly moderate trail with some inclines. Trail is rough with lots of loose bramble and twigs so wear sturdy shoes. View was amazing... The fascinating thing that you must remember when visiting Mississippi Palisades State Park on Route 84, three miles north of Savanna and 18 miles south of Galena, is Native Americans left their footprints on the trails along the Mississippi River over a thousand years ago. Located near the confluence of the Mississippi and Apple rivers in northwestern Illinois, the 2,500-acre... More

Decided to spend a day up in Savanna to visit the state park to hike and see some trains. The plus side, the overlooks are great especially with the clear skies you can see for miles. Great for eagle watching, trains, and boat traffic. Did see a few eagles and trains. The one down side is that some of the... More

Camping, hiking, picnicking, rock climbing, bird watching, flowers, animals, nature, nature trail, sightseeing are just some of the things I have done here. Spend some quality time away from technology and enjoy the outdoors.
