Good to get out of the city. We took the #286 bus from the city to Henley Beach around noon the bus was empty and the ride very relaxed and scenic. It was AuS$ 3.5 for each of us. We got off and on military rd and walked the 3 mins towards the pier. Great little spot for a snooze, good food and coffee and a jog around.

Went with friends to have a "quite" picnic. It was anything but that. Looks like people from 15 suburbs all decided to go to Henley Beach. Took 45 mins to find a car park but was worth every minute after that. It was good to see the pot of multiculturalism boiling.
Although it was crowded, we still found a spot for us on the lawn. People were friendly. People from all walks of life, ethnicity, age group, sports enthusiasts, fishing amateurs, friends, family, youth, couple and kids were there to welcome the New Year. Public toilets were well maintained for such big numbers. Sunset was amazing (as always).
This was my first time. Won't be the last.

Beautiful beach that is close to the city. There a restaurants close by or shops to by take always to sit on the sand. There are always people around, it is a safe environment that is very well maintained. Great place to watch a perfect sunset.

I seen a seal with a damaged flipper steal crabs from peoples nets, flog fish off their lines, float on its back and cruise off down the coast full and happy. Seen two dolphins being dolphins and built a canal for the water to get from sand bar to sea. Then played catch with a tennis ball. And had free listening from some kids boom speaker where they played "fireball" by Pitbull 4 times.

Oh my goodness, this place was something else. Not only was every person I met lovely but sand felt so good crinkling in between my toes. This beach means so much to me as my husband proposed to be here 54 years ago on the third of January. I give this place a 10/10 and would recommend to all my bingo friends.

During anytime if the year the walk along the beach or boardwalk is amazing. Spectacular sunsets. Henley square during warner months is like a block party ie goes off! Great for all the family!

A wonderful, clean beach area with a variety of eateries whether requiring a snack, ice cream of a 3 course meal. Enjoyed several visits here during our visit to family and friends in Adelaide. My 1 year old grandson loved the sandy beach and the calm waters and pools where he could play safely under supervision. A beautiful location

Visiting Adelaide and staying a few kilometers away, decided a visit to the beach was needed. Only spent a few hours. Several cafes about, public restrooms but are co male/female and darkish inside. Nice jetty to walk out onto. Was quite warm with lots of people on beach and in water. Looked calm. No signage re safe swimming areas and not sure if lifesavers do patrols. Went for a long walk on beach, which I enjoyed. I used Uber, could not see big areas for parking, but must have been.

Where can one park the car and walk to the beach ?? Any charges for parking or is there free parking close to the beach?
Written October 1, 2018
Hi ZP978
They did introduce metered parks but I believe there were so many complaints they have been removed.
There's lots of parking all around the area but with time limits.
I've found this info for you:
The two main car parks are immediately adjacent to Henley Square – the Northern Car Park (between Melt and Stella Restaurant/Malobo), and the Southern Carpark (between Joe’s Kiosk and Henley Surf Lifesaving Club).
These parks have a 3 hour time limit.
There is also parking along much of the Esplanade to the North of the Square, and South of Joe’s Kiosk.
Additional off-street parking is available at the privately owned Henley Square Pavilion car park.
Also if you go to the webpage "visithenleybeach" it shows a map of the area.
Hope that has answered your question for you.
Regards, Paula.

We’re thinking of staying their with young children. Do you get much noise from planes overnight?
Written January 25, 2018
Not at all, we have a curfew on flights, nothing after midnight and nothing before 6am.
Where are you thinking about staying, the big caravan park or a beachside apartment? West beach is slightly more affected by the aircraft than Henley Beach.

You can actually change clothes/bathers in the roomy and new toilet facilities on the square (in front of "Stella's") It's not a changing room facility per se but the structure is new and quite OK for changing gear.

I would like to know, please, whether there is a railway station from which I can walk to Henley Beach.

Yes, about 30 mins walk (or 11 mins by bus) from Henley Beach is the 'GRNG' railway station. This railway station is just a few streets back from the coastline.

Yes, dog friendly in Henley square and on beach. Cafes have outdoor tables so ok for dogs. Dog poo bags dispenser can be found near jetty and ramp down to beach.
Dogs should be on leash between 10am - 8pm

are you able to see the sun setting on the water?
AKA does the beach face west?
Written January 8, 2015
Henley beach is ideal for sunset shots - there are many cafes and restaurants with outdoor seating, the jetty/pier and long views. You will get lovely ocean scenes. check these to see what is possible - check sunset times - google henley beach images to see photos
If you want a larger panorama and are driving go to Mt Lofty in the Adelaide Hills - you will get all of Adelaide and the horizon/ ocean in front of you. There is a restaurant up there too. google Mt Lofty summit for webpage
Enjoy
