The coffee was excellent, although the Quiche was very average. One member of staff was amicable but had clearly never heard of the words ‘please’ or ‘thank you.’ The other member of staff had zero personality and barely uttered a word when she brought my drink and then my food to my table. An improvement in manners might tempt me back here. Ps. I used please and thank you a dozen times at least with zero reciprocation.

It’s good to come to Runaway Bay to shop for groceries, Big W or Target, lots of ladies dress shops, coffee shops, optometrists, hearing teasing places, books, hair dressers and so on. Only thing missing is a big department store.

People tend to think of the main mail building when think of Runaway Bay centre, and true - quite a few of the familiar old shops have gone, not yet replaced.
So, no green grocer, no embroidery/clothes repair, a couple of jewellers, some fast food...But the supermarkets, butcher, most of the food hall, most of boutiques, bakery, banks, post office -they’re all still there.
The community meeting room is well-used, with some lovely open-invitation events. Vodaphone hold tech workshops, too; or you can sit there with your own group (Book it for a party!). The community garden is growing beautifully outside, just up along the river.
But don’t forget the outside shops! Furniture, florists, medical centre, boutique, I think a hair salon, I think a travel centre, pet supplies...there’s more to explore, not just to drive by.
There are a couple of small popular cafes outside: one next to the furniture shop, and one not far from the gym and bus exchange.
The Tavern is opposite the Library and sports field - nice placement for a full weekend, and handy to public transport.
Yes, still lots to explore at Runaway Bay.

Liiving in the area we do most of our shopping at Runaway Shopping Centre. With large stores such as Aldi,Woolworths,Coles, Big W and plenty of smaller shops it covers everything. Eating at the centre offers plenty of choices butour favourite is Tokyo Kitchen. Here you can have freshly cooked dishes such as Japanese curries and Teriyaki chicken or select from a variety of cold dishes and salads. Apart from the quality of the meals, the prices are not hard on the pocket. The generous servings are a bargain starting at only $8,90.

At first glance you might think, yeah right this is your usual mix of shiny floors, white/bright walls, flashy shops and supermarkets, and some diners, coffee shop chains, fast food names.
But there’s more - and I don’t just mean the pharmacy, the GPs, florists, massage & beauty therapy salons, or the array of pop-up traders.
There’s a quiet and sunny, riverside deck area where you can take your beverage of choice/snack and sit to unwind for a while. Neatly landscaped, this is just outside the food hall and leads to the pontoon/river access for boatie entry to the Centre.
The paved pathway extends along the river toward the beach side (ie past Bayview) and also the other way (under Moralla.). Skateboarders and cyclists seems to enjoy it, as well as walkers.
If you walk a little further along towards the Bayview side (towards your left, as you exit the food hall, there’s a secret Community Garden hidden in a building abutment (?). Here you’ll find a small bridge into a green oasis with waist-high fragrant planters of herbs, edible flowers, veg, healing shrubs and shady trees. Benches to sit and meditate. Join in by gently weeding or finger-pruning what needs a tidy-up; share what’s ripe (sweet yellow peppers, maybe some sage or mint, basil or rosemary; check the zucchini’s progress), and keep the snails out.
Inside the Centre, there’s a new Community Room opposite Woolworths, where you could sit to read your magazine or catalogues, sip a water and nibble a fresh roll while you plan the rest of your outing.
Some currently empty shops means there’ll be new offerings in the next few months. So keep your eyes open! And watch out for those shiny floors - they can be quite slippery especially in winter, if it’s damp outside.

I have been to the Runaway Bay shops plenty of times over the years growing up on the Gold Coast , I have now moved to runaway bay and this shopping centre is my new local shops its got everything you need. Its never to crowded unless its holiday peak period and has so many different clothes shops, cafes, beauty shops and so much more. Theres a nice little cafe that sits looking over the water i like coming here for a coffee with my grandma. Also i find that the shopping centre is not to big and is only one level so you dont feel like your having to walk so far from one end to the other , great for granny because she doesn't have to walk very far.

Every time i go the staff and patrons in all stores are so friendly and helpful. I have 2 children under 2 so shopping can be stressful but every time i go staff always try to help me and make sure my shop is quick. The fellow shoppers are always so understanding and help me also when im having trouble with 2 kids and a runaway trolley.

Only thing left is for me to remember my bags 😁

This is a great shopping centre. You can get everything you need without the crowds. It has the 3 major grocery shops, a speciality butcher, fresh fruit market and numerous speciality stores. It is easy to get into with several entrances, plus lost of undercover parking. A great place to do your weekly/daily shop.

Runaway shopping centre is great, but every time I shop at Target I must say it is one of the worst Targets as having to wait in line for a checkout as they never have enough staff on. Won't shop there if I don't have to sorry
