A Must See when in Chicago!
Jul 2018 • Couples
We saw their story on Strange Inheritance and decided to take a trip to see it for ourselves. Justin was very accommodating and informative. From downtown take the blue line to O'Hara airport, then an Uber to the Theatre. You will not be disappointed!

A unique experience
Sep 2016 • Friends
Went with a group of coworkers. We were able to book a private show at 1pm, including a 'back stage tour' to see how the puppeteers orchestrated the action.
Highly recommended.

This is a must to visit

This is a very unique experience. While sitting in the audience you get so wrapped up in the performance that you forget you are watching puppets. The puppeteers are amazing and warm and friendly. The coolest thing is after the show they invite you to take a tour and see where the magic happens.

Amazing Opera Presentations
Apr 2015 • Couples
This is one attraction musical theatre and opera lovers should not miss. The unique puppet opera theatre which used to grace the Kungsholm Restaurant many years ago in Chicago has come to life in the rolling Meadows Park District lower level. A tiny opera house and stage and amazing programs put on by the most talented puppeteers I have ever seen. It is reasonable in price and a great place to take older music students as well as any adults. My husband made his first visit there this month and enjoyed the fascinating back stage tour which they have after every performance. This is one of those "don't miss" attractions in Chicago and truly one of the most unique experiences the city has to offer.

Brilliant!
Apr 2015 • Family
The Opera in Focus puppet theater performs operas with the world's most lifelike puppets. My family and I attend performances here a handful of times each year and always leave spellbound by the beauty and sophistication of each performance. I come from an operatic family (both of my parents were professional singers and my husband works for the Lyric), speak Italian and French fluently, and know most of the operas performed here by heart. The opera in focus productions are authentic opera by EVERY stretch of the imagination and recreate the stories of each opera with remarkable fidelity. Bruno Bartoletti himself was a huge fan of the Opera in Focus puppet shows. Need I say more?

Fun Unique Spot
Apr 2015 • Couples
I have been attending this for over a decade. I love this place. If you love the opera or arts in any way or just want something very unique to do this puppetry is amazing. They are so detailed that they can hold fans, and do very minute motions. It is by far one of the last of the greats in Illinois. I highly suggest it.

So hokey.
Jun 2014 • Family
This is not opera by any stretch of the imagination. They play a record of opera music, and then puppets (admittedly very nice puppets) slide along slots from side to side and make random movements that have nothing to do with the music or the story of the opera. I don't know why anyone would go there a second time.

Experience an excellent experience of art, craft and fun
Sep 2013 • Couples
I had stumbled on the Opera in Focus when I was researching for information about things to see and do after relocating to Lake County. I am not a opera connoisseur but enjoy puppetry and decided to pay a visit. I enjoyed the time spent, and especially so because of the backstage tour at the end of the show. If you visit their YouTube channel you can find a lot of material on how these puppets came about. It is fun to have an opportunity to meet the crew after the show. I would encourage people who don't really like opera to go with an open mind and without any expectations. You will enjoy the experience as a whole. Bring your camera, the backstage is offers a lot of opportunities. Cash is better, as the card swiping (Visa/Mastercard) is manual. Call in earlier to make sure the show has not been cancelled. The Park District often takes up the parking spots, or there aren't enough reservations.
