Try to plan your trip when there is a tour—it makes it even better. The films are also worth your time as they give great information in a short period of time. The volunteers were very helpful and friendly.

The visitor center has an enclosed and an open deck that overlooks the locks from a short distance. I saw a barge pass through the lock and the docent gave an excellent overview of the history of navigation on the Mississippi.

This area has the most wonderful place to see the eagles this time of year. On the Mississippi River, there is no better place to view the splendor of this bird. People come from all over to experience this.
