And we were here on Monday 😔 can't add any more comments because we didn't see anything. Gorgeous day to sit along the river!

the visitor center itself does not look like much but there are a lot of neat features to the center. go up to the tower and if you are lucky you can see the barges come thru the lock and dam. The day we were there we got to see the bridge (car and RR) shut down traffic and swivel... More

This visitor center is worth a visit to see an up close view of barges traveling through the locks. Army Corps of Engineers personnel are available to answer questions and there are short videos to watch.

We made a late afternoon stop on a visit to Arsenal Island and enjoyed learning about Lock and Dam 15 and the River Valley. It was interesting but we recommend taking in one of the tours offered at 11:00am and 2:00pm each day during the summer. Seeing the lock in operation on a tour is what we'll try to do... More

We stopped here to watch a barge go through and catch up on the history of the locks and dams. Very interesting on how many locks there are on the Mississippi to help navigate the river. Catch a movie on how they work or on other topics. It's all free, clean and handicapped accessible. I would visit again and bring... More

I never realized that so much of the Mississippi is a series of locks operated by the Army Corps of Engineers. The center has an excellent 15 minute film describing the locks and facilities maintained as part of keeping the entire river open for commerce. In addition, the visitor's center has a bird's eye view which allows you to watch... More

Very interesting visit. The Mississippi River is/was quite a place. I was at the arsenal, however it was a very long time ago and I can't really remember much about it.

This place is a 'must visit'! We were very lucky when we went, because we got to see a 9-barge load go through the lock. This entailed the road/rail bridge opening, (which meant a train was held up,) and we got to speak to two most excellent staff members about what was happening. The National Parks Ranger, Ranger Mike and... More

Although it's a little more difficult to get to with the new security procedures and gate realignments, this is still one of the best places to watch eagles in the winter and barges and pleasure boats in the summer plus the 360 degree spinning bridge! You can learn the history of the Rock Island office, take tours of the clock... More

The Lock and Dam visitors center is staffed by great people who have a lot to share. It's child friendly and free.
