The volunteers were very helpful and friendly. There is an outdoor viewing area which was cold and windy the day we were there but does provide an unobstructed view. Recommended!

Try to plan your trip when there is a tour—it makes it even better. The films are also worth your time as they give great information in a short period of time. The volunteers were very helpful and friendly.

The visitor center has an enclosed and an open deck that overlooks the locks from a short distance. I saw a barge pass through the lock and the docent gave an excellent overview of the history of navigation on the Mississippi.

They have an interactive center. If you go in the spring through fall and are lucky you can watch a barge pass through the locks
