Except for hordes of stray dogs following you, it is a very nice beach. People come here to do puja only. The pandits are non demanding and good and do the puja well.

Sagardwip Beach is very famous for pilgrimage, especially during the Poush Shankranti every year, when lakhs of visitors from around the globe flock here to take a holy dip in the water from midnight till next day (end of Poush month in Bengali, which typically dates around January 15th every year). I had visited during that time in the past,... More

Sagardwip is a small island famous for the annual Gangasagar Mela in January. February and beyond, this island is more or less deserted so you can lie on the sand and let the sea bathe you. The sea is very calm here so is the wind. Good for a day's outing.

The unfortunate part is that there is not even a single restaurant from Kolkata till Ganga Sagar. The beach where Kapil Muni Ashram is... More

You've got to drive to a place called Harwood Point or 'Lot No. 8, near Kakdwip', beyond Diamond Harbour. About four hours drive from Kolkata, road conditions vary from acceptable to bad (especially just after the rainy season). Don't dream of driving yourself. I recommend you take a small but comfortable car, not a huge E-class Merc (the reasons will... More
