A very good small temple. People normally go there after bath at Gangasagar. Old temple structure has drawn in waves but statues are old one. A market for pooja is developed there. I wish there be some more cleanliness and public transport as dependent on private vehicles or E-rickshaws.

It is the main temple complex of the Gangasagar island.located less than one Km distance from the bathing sea- beach.Mainly devoted to Muni Kapil, whose Idol is in the center, and on his Rt side is Ma Ganga and on Lt side is idol of king sagar-whose 60000 sons were burned to ashes by the rage of Kapilmuni.Besides their are other small sanctoms with idols of Ram Darbar, Sankat mochan Hanumanji , Shiv Darbar, Narisingh Bhagwan , Goddesses Durga ji and Kali ji.,Aswamedh horse .Ambience in and around the temple is very neat and clean .Piligrim first take holy bath in the nearby sea them come to this temple for darshan.

I was amazed by the fact that the priest there doesn't even ask for a penny, contrary to normal practices almost everywhere except Lokenath Baba's temples in Kochua and surrounding areas.

A swarm of beggars descended on us the moment we reached precincts of the Kapil Muni Temple. Another disappointment was the man paddled cart to drive one to the temple premises. Add to that a dirty beach where one would loathe to take a holy dip.

Since childhood i remember some lines of my reading book (in bengali)
...... chol toke diye ashi sagorer jole .... from "Debatar Graas"

Today Sagar Island remains in news regarding "no development area", "4 hours electric supply - the rationing formula", "inaccessability with reference to politics" etc etc

Still Sagar is beautiful, vergin, seems to be the longest (???) beach over at West Bengal State. Try once. I thing you will love the place.

Do choose the festival time if you want to experience india in a single day
Do not choose the festival time if you want to see india for the rest of your life

thanks

The place can be visited and returned in one day. But it is advisable to stay for one or two nights. Take a bus from Esplanade or local train from Sealdah to Kakdwip. The buses are frequent and takes around two and half hours to reach kakdwip (90km). Then take a ferry service from Harwood point which is a three minutes walking distance from the bus stand. It takes 45 minutes to cross. muriganga river and reach kachuberia on the other side. Take a bus or a car (may charge 400-600) to reach ganga sagar 30 km away. Offer puja after talking a dip in the sagar. Stay in newly renovated West bengal tourism tourist Lodge or youth hostel (to be booked from Kolkata youth department in Maulali. Eateries serve bengali dishes. Veg food is available near bus stand. People are simple. Visit light house and enjoy the sunset.

This shrine is located at the confluence of the holy ganga river with the sea. Hindus come here every January to celebrate makar sankranti. The place is a bit far from the nearest large city of Kolkata, but the journey is worth it.
