Took a ship excursion on a catamaran from the port in Castries, St. Lucia to view the Pitons. Well maintained boat with helpful, friendly and informative crew. Cruised down the coast while the guide crew member explained about building the villages and roads, talked about the infrastructure of the island and,of course, highlighted mega expensive resorts. Sighted some dolphins playing alongside the boat. Captain took us close enough to see the detail of the sharp drop of the twin peaks to the ocean. Had a short swim stop. Was a great way to see the Pitons without having to spend a long time in a vehicle.

We made our way early to the Pitons meeting point and began our climb at 7.20 am with our guide Larry. Larry was knowledgeable about the area and walked at a good pace to get us up and down in 4 hours. The climb itself was not too bad it was more coping with the heat whilst climbing.

These mountains are the symbol of the island. They are a unique geological structure due to their size and somewhat odd location being right on the water. Many islands that have mountains like this are centrally located, but not these. The larger one has a hiking trail, but if you are not physically fit, then seek advise before trying to climb it. If you visit St. Lucia and travel to the south you will encounter these unique peaks.

I took part in a Princess Cruise on the Queen of the Carnival which is a catamaran. The scenery throughout was stunning and the mini-cruise was very good. The highlight was The Pitons which were outstanding. We only viewed from the water but it was well worth it - and avoided a long dusty drive in searing heat!!

Going to St Lucia? Visit the Pitons. Or better still stay near here - it's the best part of the island. It's all lovely here but these two mountains are just so iconic and spectacular. Soufriere is a lovely little town but you can only see Petit Piton from there. If you have a private tour operator ask them to stop at a view point for both peaks, or take a boat.

We set out at 7am with the goal to only hike halfway. We are 50 & 55 and while physically active and exercise regularly we are not accustomed to hiking rocks and boulders. Everyone also said the best views are at the halfway point. Shane was our guide and was excellent and great to have along the trek to the halfway mark. It is difficult so be sure to wear proper hiking boots, start early due to the heat and bring plenty of water. We will be back next year and plan to hike the entire route.

The two Pistons are without question the highlight on St Lucia. The two steeply exciting cones of volcanic rock, connected in the middle to a picturesque bay, Shugger Beach, are also stylized on the national flag. You can climb the mountains, regularly not a good idea in the tropics.

Very beautiful hike where many tried to discourage us but which is definitely worth the effort. It wasn't our hardest climb either. Our 8 year old son did it without even complaining. The views are magnificent. The vegetation is lush and the smells are intoxicating.

We have to have a guide that I can understand for less fit people. For us it was not useful. She didn't say a word except to show us a tarantula or tell us where it was slippery. Very well marked paths. The price is high: US$50 per person. They strongly suggested a US$5 stick for rental which I didn't take and I did well. It would have been useless for me. The guide used it a lot and so did my partner. It all depends on how you go up and down the mountains. You need good mountain shoes and I suggest merino socks so your feet don't get too hot. People in running shoes often slipped.

If you're not in shape, take it at your own pace. You're going to get there. The view is worth the effort.

The round trip took us 4 hours with an 8 year old child (used to the mountains) and rain on the way back.

I am not one to normally write reviews of geological features, but I could not allow the 1 star reviews of these majestic peaks go undefended.

Others have complained that the mountain was a very difficult hike. Or that it rained while they were hiking which made the rocks slippery.

Yes, it is a cone shaped mountain. One look at it should let you know it is a steep climb. Although you may be on vacation, the laws of physics still apply to the friction coefficient of wet rocks.

Also I would like to defend the guides. People have complained that their guide didn’t give a nature lesson while climbing this beast. They also, predictably, complained about the $50 cost.

The role of the guide is not to teach you about local plants. The guide is there to safely get you up and back down this cone of death.

Also, you try hiking this thing 4 times a day dragging out-of-shape middle aged Karens up this slope. $50 is not nearly enough.

So big dangerous hill. If you get out of breath walking to the mall, this isn’t for you.

If you are mildly fit, climbing the Gross piton is for you. It took us 2 1/2 hours each way. You must hire a guide ($55 a person), but ours was knowledgeable and helpful. The climb is a mix of rocky steps and scrambling over boulders. The trails are moderately busy. Nearly at the top there was a fellow selling beer, energy drinks, and water and some foreign substance (he that can’t be named). The view from the top was so so but pretty. Start early, bring a lunch and water.

Like all of st Lucia, you will be over charged for the experience. But they are trying to build the economy with tourism, and still in the early throes.

We were on the Norwegian Escape over Christmas and New Year. We made a stop in St. Lucia and 6 other islands, on this 9 day cruise. It was our 43rd cruise and 1st time to visit St. Lucia. The island was really mountainous with narrow, winding roads. It was a beautiful site and our long bus ride took us around much of the south end of the island.

Our excursion, that we booked through the ship, was called "Touch the Pitons." I had no idea what that meant, except that we would be able to see these iconic peaks. We drove for at least an hour on a medium size bus as the bigger buses would not fit the roads. We stopped a few times at scenic over looks to take pictures.

We arrived at the parking area and departed the bus. A local guide pointed way up the mountain to a platform and said that was where we were going. I couldn't imagine that it could be that tough and convinced my wife to go. I am 76 years old and she was about to turn 72. We are in pretty good shape and this excursion proved it.

The trail was cut by locals. It was dirt in most places with roots acting as trip hazards. The trail was barely wide enough for us to go single fine. So, it was a bit difficult when we met folks coming down. My wife asked one of them for their walking stick and they obliged. It took almost an hour to make it to the platform. Part way up we enter a section that was called "Stairway To Heaven."

Well, we made it and you can see by the pictures I posted that it was worth it. Going down only took us 15 minutes.

We made it to the top!!! What a great feeling of accomplishment and a way to take in some of the best views in the Caribbean! The local tour guides are great and help you stay safe on the steep trails. This hike is not for the faint of heart. If you had too many Piton beers the night before or haven’t worked out recently, I’d skip it for sure! But if you’re in for a challenge, you’ll be rewarded by the vast views, culture and foliage along the trail. It’s $50 USD per person, the guides work on tips and you can grab a taxi to take you there. Could be one of the more affordable tours available!

WOW! First of all, this review is just for hiking Petit Piton. I hiked it with Wayne of Wayne's Tours & Hiking Club. He was a fantastic guide, and though the locals had put some fear in me as to whether I'd be able to climb the mountain (it's apparently trickier than Gros Piton), Wayne guided me up with patience and care. This hike doesn't technically require a guide, but bring one!! Specifically, bring Wayne.

The hike itself was about 5 hours total (2 up + down, plus an hour up top), and it was grueling at times! Wear good shoes, bring some water, and take your time. But the views up top are unbeatable (apparently better than Gros Piton, because you get a 360 view). Just be ready to have your legs and arms feel like jelly for a few days after.

After, Wayne brought me to the warm pools/waterfall at the base (he paid all of my entrance fees), which was a wonderful reward for the hard work. I can't recommend Wayne enough.

An incredible experience I won't soon forget. Thank you Wayne!! (WhatsApp: +17587145454)

We experienced “Touch the Pitons” with Caleb Tarantula and it was spectacular! Highly recommend this excursion. Caleb narrated on our bus journey to the Pitons. Entertaining and informative with several stops along the way. After hiking the Tet Paul Nature Trail and viewing the Pitons we stopped to splash under the Toraille waterfall then had an enjoyable meal at the Old Sugar Mill Restaurant. A wonderful way to spend the day on St Lucia.

We visited St Lucia during our Caribbean cruise aboard the Crown Princess. Upon arrival, we coordinated a day tour with a local taxi driver for a reasonable price. We were very fortunate in that they assigned us to John Mentor. jmentor63@gmail.com John was easily the best driver we could have imagined. Our goal was to drive around the entire island and see as much as possible. John set out showing us many sights and viewpoints along the way giving us as much time as we wanted at each stop and explaining about each part of the island. Since he new we were pressed for time, he took us to a Rum sampling and recommended we not do the Rum tour since it would take too much time and he was right. He showed us the difference between bananas and plantains and got us some fresh coconuts. As we drove, he stopped at a few local places showing the food and preparation methods. By the time we got to the Pitons, it was approaching noon and we were worried that we wouldn't make it back to the ship on time so we told John to turn around and he obliged. On the way back he took us to other view points and got us back to the ship in plenty of time. I highly recommend John as a guide. Once back at the ship, John saw us walking to the other port and offered us a ride.

Nov 11 2019 Carnival Breeze ported in Beautiful St Lucia and here is my review. We booked an Island tour with Cosol Tours, we met at 8:20am as soon as your off the ship, a large group from our Cruise ship had booked a private tour, so it took a few minutes to get thinks organized and the drivers & buses assigned. Once that was done we loaded up and off we went. Around the Bay and thru Castries soon we were winding our way up into the hills. Our awesome & very funny driver Cassius telling us about St Lucia, places we stop at, an things we pass along the way and answering any questions we had along the way. He was so nice an took great care of our group all day, everything was thought of and well planned. Our first stop a Banana Plantation where we learn about Banana growing. Sampled fresh picked banana's & items made from banana's (Ketchup, mustard, BBQ sauce) yummmo. On the road again....up & down around the Mtns, Rain forest & sweeping Ocean views. We drive thru a couple small sea side villages then up into the lush Mtns where we stop for a break and sample a Buffet of wonderful fresh food from the Island fish cakes, johnny cakes, coconut cake, fruits, coconuts and a beverage. Then off we go and shortly we come around a curve and we can see a Beautiful view of the Pitons w/Soufriere at the bottom. We descend into town, park near the bay, walk to the pier, board a speed boat and away we go to Sugar Beach in between the Majestic Pitons. We spend 1hr on the very crowded public beach side, swimming or snorkeling, then speed back to Soufriere & our mini bus. Next stop Volcanic Mud Bath for 1/2hr then off to Toraille Waterfall. To cool off and wash off the extra dried mud, Very pretty here. Time to head back now with one stop for fresh hot baked bread and cheese sticks, Soooo yummmmy. We would 100% recommend Cosol Tours for an excursion, they will make sure you have a Great day and loads of fun, on this lush and Beautiful Island.

You cannot truly appreciate the magnificence of these volcanic peaks until you visit St Lucia. The lush colors of the peak towering over the beautiful colors of the Caribbean are so unique. Enjoy the peaks from land or water or for the brave—-take a climb! Definitely a highlight of our Caribbean vacation
