Cedarhurst is an oasis in the lower half of Illinois and a perfect two hour stop for us on our way from Ohio to Missouri. They have a modest but outstanding art collection. Unlike many art museums with short descriptions of the artwork, each piece has a good description that provides additional context for the piece. A couple of temporary art exhibitions were also included, plus a fantastic art/play room for youngsters. Our six year old granddaughter loved it! Outside dozens of large sculptures placed on the property and an overcast sky made it possible to see most of them on a walking tour.

We attended the production of Rocky Horror Picture Show that Cedarhurst put on. The volunteers did a great job, and the venue was comfortable. We had a great time. We are looking forward to attending other events at Cedarhurst.

We were on a road trip in November and sought out a place to stretch our legs. The Cedarhurst Center for the Arts was closed, but there was access to the Goldman-Kuenz Sculpture Park. We were the only ones there other than a mower and someone painting the sculptures. The sculptures are spread out on the grounds. We walked to some and were glad there were signs identifying them. Some were in better shape than others. To us many were quirky, but perhaps that more reflects our lack of knowledge on the subject.
For outdoor art, we do highly recommend the outdoor sculptures at Wichita State University's Ulrich Museum of Art in Wichita, Kansas. They are real standouts and readily accessible around the campus.

If you visit Jefferson County, be sure to find time to visit Cedarhurst Center for the Arts in Mt. Vernon, Illinois.
There are many activities, and a museum. Cedarhurst Art Show is held every year around September or August. It is a very popular event drawing nationwide artists and venders.

was at the Cedarhurst Fair entrance , and turned away, as a view of tents showed less activity and more expensive............. 20 DOLLARS TO GET IN. WE ENDED UP AT THE CITY PARK EXHIBITS WHERE WE BOUGHT THINGS THAT WERE MORE AFFORDABLE, PEOPLE WERE FRIENDLY. Cedarhurst caters only TO THE elite and offers less for more.. very overrated.. Didn't see one single bus this year transporting people to the Fair, like in the past. People are getting tired of your HIGH prices AND QUALITY GOING DOWN. i think you had probably half of the vendors you usually have, and the same with attendees. Pricing yourself right out of business. several people I talked to at city park were in agreement., and having a good time buying ART there. this is the same day as Cedarhurst weekend. Oh yeah blame covid again, but you are doing this yourself. Called money hungry. Less quality and higher prices are slowly putting you out of business. Lots of people attended Kinmunfy days log cabin this weekend as it was more family friendly and didn't rip people off.

Cedarhurst is a welcome oasis of culture in southern IL. The staff is friendly and knowledgeable and fun. The various exhibitions are always well curated and intriguing. Their permanent collection is filled with beautiful works by important artists and provides an opportunity for up close viewing, the likes of which are rare outside of the city. Their sculpture park is equally exciting and educational, well attended by local wildlife.
I highly recommend going several times throughout the year, as there are always new and different things to see and learn!

An eclectic collection of mixed media. Statuary, paintings, textiles, quilts, and a very robust kid's activity room.
Three adults visited and found it a worthwhile expenditure of $15 total.

We made a planned stop here as we were traveling to Florida and wanted to see this sculpture park. It was in fairly close proximity to the hotel. They had a map which seemed to be a bit off for a walking tour, but we enjoyed looking at all the art, nonetheless. From our guestimation, we only saw about half the park's sculptures, so we plan to return soon and see the rest. They are all nicely laid out on the property with great descriptions of the art and who created it. If you are near Mt Vernon, plan a few hours to stop here to take the weariness from travels away.

This is a wonderful facility. They house the Veiled Rebecca marble statue. She is gorgeous. I heard is described as not quantity but quality. I piggybacked the visit with an art class and a Saturday lecture series. A true treat.

What a pleasant afternoon we had! Walking around outside on a beautiful Spring afternoon amongst the sculptures. Then went inside to see the permanent exhibit of art which is rather fantastic for a not Paris! Loved the Cassat and all the Ashcan artisits they had there. And it was FREE! Then we paid 5.00 to see the temporary exhibit which was awkward family pictures divided up by holiday, pets, weddings etc. I truly laughed out loud and makes you realize OMG we all have had these with uncooperative crying children on Santa's lap etc. And the lady at the front was very helpful telling us the history of the Mitchells and how they had no children but travelled and collected this art and donated the grounds and the art to this. Very interesting way to spend our afternoon.
