Theater in the round, 8 rows deep- not a bad seat. Lots of legroom, 15 min intermission. Parking for regular folk is good with easy in and out. Like Drury Lane or Northlight but with better parking.

Theatre in the round, done in a square, is apparently the geometric formula for excellent quality entertainment at this resort/local theater. With an enticing annual slate of musicals, the Marriott Theater was a pleasant stop on a business trip to northwest Chicago.

A review of the playbill for Elf revealed a cast that clearly has steady work available for the theater's season, as many in the cast have played the house multiple times before. The quality of the acting/singing/dancing was excellent.

There's not a bad seat in the house - except for the fact that you need to watch out for the aisle seats if you have long legs. They are situated along a sloping ramp which makes the seating slightly awkward, but not uncomfortable for the most part. The front row seats place the sage at lap level, but are good seats nonetheless.

You can hear very well as the orchestra takes place in a visible, but darkened, soundproof booth. The music is then piped in overhead throughout so everyone hears the same thing.

The players are some hardworking folks. They have to get practically every lick of scenery/prop on and off the stage up and down the four aisles. The theater makes use of it's back aisle space cleverly as black curtains hide much. You never notice where the unused things are stored, unless you're looking for it. Shows make use of the entire theater space, which adds a challenge to direction, but a pleasant involvement with the audience.

Elf was very well done. It's a 98% family friendly show (the 2% will go right over the heads of most children), with solid voices and fun and robust acting. The case appeared to truly enjoy their craft.

The theater is accessed up a flight of stairs, but there is an elevator for those that need assistance. The staff was pleasant and accommodating. You cannot take concessions into the theater - and I LOVE this aspect of how things are run. No spills and goo, no extra ratting of wrappers.

This was a last minute experience that I found entirely entertaining and can easily recommend.

There is not a bad seat in the house in the "round" here. Not only can you see from everywhere but the seats are very comfortable with plenty of legroom. Rare these days! We saw the King and I last night and it was superb. The choreography was wonderful - everyone being able to see, making the most of every inch of the stage. The singing was fantastic. Sometimes when you go to non-downtown theaters, the singing isn't as good but there wasn't a weak link in the cast in terms of talent. We have attended many shows here over the years and are very impressed with the professionalism of everyone involved. My husband and I agreed this production (King and I) might be their best. We highly recommend you discover or re-discover the Marriott Theatre - their productions are consistently wonderful - and maybe do so before the King and I ends!

We were at Marriott Theater recently for Oliver! It was absolutely fantastic. The performance was great. The actor playing Oliver Twist was fantastic. Kai Edgar was playing the roll on this visit, and he was excellent. Amazing that an eight year old had such emotion and his was singing was excellent. The venue was excellent as well. It is such a intimate setting. We were sitting on an aisle and at the beginning of the show when the boys are singing "Food Glorious Food" they were right next to us. So cool. It was our first visit to Marriott Theater, and we will definately be back.

The Marriott Theatre is a great venue. The only theatre in the round in the area. My wife and I have been enjoying great shows for 20+ years. Never a bad seat in the house. If you are ever visiting the area, I recommend taking in a theatre production. You will not be disappointed.

Great play! Great theatre and not a bad seat in sight. It's nice not to drive all the way downtown. I thought the staff and usher were helpful in helping us navigate the theatre. If your hungry afterwards the adjacent hotel has a full menu.

Very affordable and entertaining kids shows. Short, just one hour which is perfect for young ones. The seating is great and there are no bad seats. There is also some audience participation.

We've had season subscriptions to the Marriott Theatre on and off for several years. I've given the theatre four stars, because their productions are either absolutely outstanding, or they're very average. Since production staff there is closely affiliated with Northwestern University, they are prone to casting young actors from the theatre program there. Too often this means the cast is too young and inexperienced to carry shows at the professional level we expect at this theatre. If we wanted to see college-level productions, we'd go to the University. When the casting is balanced, the productions are soooo much better. My recommendation is to check reviews and, if possible, get personal recommendations before buying tickets.

I don't normally dine at the Marriott as there are so many better choices within three miles of the resort. It is a really nice theater to see a performance in. It is a bargain if you buy season tickets but pricey for some musicals and childrens' productions - $85 per person. I have been a season member off and on for probably 7 years. Some seasons are good and some aren't - last year we walked out of several performances at intermission.
