A walk in the park
Dec 2019
I went to Half Day Forest Preserve in Vernon Hills on x-mas day for a walk. What a great place. The trails are well tended to. The signage not so much. Got a little lost because they were missing signs on various paths but all you have to do is stay on a path and 6 miles (combined waking distance on trails) later you will come across homes, streets, etc. Thanks for the amazing place and the amazing place to walk and clear the clutter.

Our Wedding ceremony
Sep 2019
My wife and I picked this venue for its natural beauty and the ability to provide Ceremony only services. Well thats where the problem lies. The catering company is a separate entity from forest preserve. If you do not book their catering and only use the premises for the ceremony you are treated like a red headed step child. 1. No mention of another Wedding going on that day and were forced to tell our guest they needed to use the outdoor restrooms on a rainy day. 2. We ordered a simple easel they and their only responsibility and they managed to forget to put it out. 3. The chairs were not set out the way we instructed and they did not sweep the grounds before our guest arrived. 4. Nobody had a clue where to go for the ceremony as they told us the gate keeper would instruct them and everyone went to the main building this made several people late for the ceremony. I would NEVER hold another event at this establishment!

Best trails in northern illinois.

I have walked and ridden my bikeed on every trail that the forest preserve manages. This year many of the trails have suffered because of the continued rain. I am looking forward to being back on the trails soon.

Lake county forest preserves are great places to see native plants and migrating birds. I am always surprised to see all the restoration that is being done.

Wonderful path for a hike

Enjoyed another delightful hike on the paths of the forest preserve. They are very well maintained. You can hike for different distances but it is always well maintained and beautiful. We enjoyed the wildlife. We felt very safe on the path.

Weekend hike

Arrived here on a late Sunday and walked by the river passing, the farm, brand new tourist center where staff lady was very helpful, cabins and informative stands along the way. This forest is beautifully preserved!! One can receive free monthly magazine or events calendar in the email! I wonder if any water sports happen on that river..I was sad that pets& bikes are not allowed.Regardlesswill be back at least for sledding or skying since is free as opposed to the Arboretum!

The Lake County Forest Preserves have beautiful bike and hiking trails throughout the County. My favorite is the DesPlaines River Trail that runs from the Wisconsin Border into Cook County. Great places for picnicking and family outings.

Love the Lake County Forest Preserves!!!

Love the Lake County Forest Preserves!!! We are so lucky to have so many beautiful, pristine, well maintained facilities in Lake County. My favorite is Old School Forest Preserve; probably because it is less utilized than most as it doesn't have as much to offer. Love the Exercise Trail, the Bridle Path and the trail around the lake. Although it is right next to I-294, one feels as if you are in the middle of a deep forest.
