Beautiful, Peaceful, Holy
Oct 2019
Beautiful, Holy Shrine! I went to retreats here when I was younger and they shaped me like no other experience. I am so thankful for the work of the friars and volunteers here. Someone mentioned that it's "boring"- lets be clear, this is a Catholic Church and not an amusement park- but what is "boring" about the Savior of the world being made present in the Eucharist and in Adoration? Please God fill our hearts for love of You and especially the gift of your Holy Presence in the Eucharist!

Not fun, Boring!!!
Aug 2019
As about as much fun as going to a Funeral, no snacks or beverages to be found and you cannot even drive through the whole place, closed off over half of it. If your looking for a place to make the Kids lose their minds... this is the place to take em!

Beautiful!

This is an amazing shrine with 24 hour Adoration of Jesus. The Shrine of the great St. Maximilian Kolbe who sacrificed his life for another in Auschwitz is here at Marytown. They have a wonderful bookstore and gift shop as well. Definitely worth a visit.

My husband and I made a special Triton visit this shrine. It's so beautiful and serene. We were blessed to be able to attend Mass. I felt the holiness of the surroundings. Awesome.

If you need a time-out with the Divine

This is an adoration chapel, so if beautiful churches, quiet, morning, afternoon, evening prayers and Masses are not your thing, you will not enjoy it. I spend an hour there each week to center myself and bask in the peace. You can certainly walk around and explore the chapel just as you can do with most churches here and abroad.

Really pretty, very quiet
Apr 2018
Try to go on a weekday for a little more solitude. If you can't manage that, go anyway. The grounds are beautiful and the day we were there, we were able to self tour the library and the chapel and drive all the way around the lake. We enjoyed the walking out on to the brick pier and gazing across the lake. I understand some buildings may be restricted for tours in the future and that you can't drive all the way around the lake anymore. Modern life has caught up with the place, I guess.

Architectural gem on the campus of Marytown
Feb 2019 • Couples
This is a large campus in Mundelein, which is in the north suburbs of Chicago. It includes a large seminary, small lake, walking paths and the National Shrine of Maximilian Kobe (chapel) and gift shop. There is also another church near the seminary. The Kobe shrine is an architectural gem, with stained glass, marble and an amazing gold and blue alter with a dome. I attend mass on Sundays and enjoy the more traditional mass given by the Franciscan Friars. My holiday season is spent selling Christmas trees as a volunteer for the Knights of Columbus in the front. So please come and buy a tree for your family. Proceeds benefit food baskets for the poor. Knights also host an awesome 5K run sponsored by CARA for serious runners.

Beautiful place for Prayer, Solitude, and Refreshment of soul
Apr 2018 • Friends
As a Catholic, I am always looking for places to go for prayer and solitude. This gem of a shrine located in the Northern Suburbs of Chicago not only has a small church on the grounds, but also areas one could walk and accomodations where they could stay for a night, weekend, or longer and spend time in retreat.

Not only do they have Catholic Masses and other devotions, but they also have conferences as part of the MI (Mission Immaculata) movement.

This is the National Shrine for St. Maximilian Kolbe so you will find a museum dedicated to him and his work in Europe.

They also have a good sized gift shop full of books and other items.
