Charming town square. Good place to window shop if you're on a budget and shop shop if you're not. J.Crew, Williams Sonoma, several clothing boutiques, and the snazziest Starbucks I've seen anywhere.

Market Square is the town's heartbeat and should not be missed. The area includes an assortment of boutique shops and restaurants to choose from. Visiting the square during the holidays with the lights strung around trees is an added bonus.

Market Square in Lake Forest is the oldest planned shopping center in the country. It is filled with local boutiques, some larger chains (William Sonoma, J. Crew), and a charming center green and fountain. Lovely!

Finding ourselves driving through the villages along Lake Michigan as part of our Labor day holiday, we were surprised to chance on Market Square in Lake Forest, IL during the Deer Path Art League's 62nd Annual Art Fair on the Square. While it was difficult for us to appreciate the charm of the Square in its own right, we can... More

I live within 1.5 miles of this little architectural gem in the heart of the Lake Shore North Chicago suburbs at Lake Forest, Illinois. Those lured by the attractions of the city may ignore the charm of the small communities along the shore of Lake Michigan: their loss!!. Strolling in Market Square is a unique experience!

Marked by more than a few vacant storefronts, the first shopping mall in American is a shadow of its former self. The unique local shops are almost all gone, replaced by national chain stores/franchises - when they are replaced at all. You can do as well with better selection at any big indoor mall.

Market Square is finally moving into the 21st century but it is being dragged slowly. There are several new shops waiting to be explored, new candy and ice cream to taste. Don't skip the alleyways there are hidden gems to be discovered quaint shops hiding. The restaurants are also surprisingly good Especially the seafood place on the second floor. I... More

Currently you can find Saturday daytime open air markets across at the train station and free Thursday night concerts at the square.. The most charming summer activity is to stroll around the square and read the informative and entertaining posters displayed in almost every shop window. They were provided by the local Historical Society and give the history of every... More

Rather disappointing. Apparently this place is under new management, Food OK, soup and sandwich/sandwich and salad, but the service was so slow.....we had grandchildren with us and it was hard to keep them under control since it was past their lunch time, even with crayons.
